Mr A Mayborn died Tuesday afternoon at the Odell hospital after long declining health. He would have turned ninety in August. A Lanham and Diller area resident, he was a farmer, stock man, and financier respected for integrity. Services were held at 2 30 this afternoon at the Congregational church.
Report from Veteran's Hospital in Lincoln states Ray Green shows one noted improvement and cheerfulness despite no change in sight. Recovery remains slow with several weeks required. plans mention local staff changes at the Telephone Co. and a bass drummer for the band. Will Tristman will arrive August 1 from Sheldon to oversee telephone lines.
Floyd Hughes fell from a soapy bath in a Bath homelanding on the linoleum floor and hitting his head. Neighbors heard him cry out and his wife Elizabeth provided first aid after emergency steps. A one and a half inch gash opened on the back of his head, and a boarder Gilbert Plager was sent to Dr Viers for ointment.
Miss Alice Specht shows some improvement at the University hospital in Omaha as several specialists consult on her baffling condition. No visitors were received this week while the medical team assesses her case. sister Mrs. LaVern Pickard of Fairbury visited last Saturday.
Donna Garrels is recovering well after a throat operation performed last week by Dr. De Rice. The news notes a smooth post operative period and ongoing recovery.
Diller's town picnic nears with four programs of entertainment. The Seven Spies Sisters and the four Kay Sisters will perform singing, dancing and acrobatics. A Diller Band parade leads old time vehicles from Main Street to the park at 6 30 P M. Parishioners urged to wear old time clothes and enter parades and dresses, with antique wedding gowns sought for display and judging on opening day. A community sing and dance nights, rides and concessions are planned to please all.
Myreta J. Wehling expresses thanks to the thief who took her bag with underwear from the Steele City picnic. The bag was later found in a flower bed by a Steele City resident after a rain and returned to Myreta. She hopes the thief’s embarrassment has faded and disappointment overcome.
Notice announces a league picnic on Sunday evening July 27. Members meet at the Methodist Church at 5 o clock and each person should bring their own lunch. First Vice President directs the gathering.
Mrs Clark's class at the Congregational church will sell homemade ice cream in cones on Saturday evening July 26. The stand will be on Main Street for the fundraiser event.
A daughter was born Saturday July 12 1941 at Beatrice hospital to Mr and Mrs Clarence Meyer with likely involvement of Charlotte Liggert. The event is reported as a local birth notice.

Dr and Mrs Claude Ellis arrived home Monday from Western Kansas where they own half section of land. They report crop conditions better in that country than for many years but there is too much rain for harvesting small grain. During the Ellises' absence only two days were dry enough to operate the harvester. Excess rain has caused wheat to deteriorate and old timers say the grasses are better than ever before.
A brief travel note suggests someone will be in Diller before returning home in the Island City It implies a period of long travel and a forthcoming visit in the Island City.
Mr and Mrs Roy Roelfs accompanied their son Irvin to Omaha yesterday to consult a nerve specialist about Roys condition and when he can come home.
Local librarian Mises Mary Loth traveled to Lincoln on Tuesday for a librarians session. Her sister Mrs. Harry Allen drove her to Beatrice where she boarded the bus.
July 18 1941 letter from A L Miller M D Director State Department of Health assures Mayor Diller and citizens that municipal water samples submitted July 9 1941 tested satisfactory for human consumption. State engineers offer service and cooperation pending test on a new well not yet completed.
Willard Beckman has resigned from Diller State Bank to take a teller and credit assistant role at the California Bank in Los Angeles. He reports liking his work and California, notes Nebraska expatriates nearby, plans to attend the Diller picnic August 5-6, and sent a one year subscription check for the Record.
Mr and Mrs Calvin Waggoner preside at the funeral of Mr George Carter at First Christian church. Carter, aged 70, a longtime blue rock shooting pro for 32 years, retired two years ago but shot in Hastings state meet this spring. He was Nebraska's first game warden and a wildlife preservation leader.
