Wheat More Profitable Than Corn
At a Hays Kansas meeting Supt. W P Snyder of the North Platte Experimental Substation said wheat, now harvested, will be more profitable to feed than corn at current prices. Ground wheat is advised if grinding costs under 18 cents per bushel. Snyder urged green for age shelter and water as essential for hogs on dry farms and discussed sorghum rye rape and grasses as alfalfa substitutes for summer forage. Costs to gain 100 pounds favor wheat over corn with 60 cent wheat and 56 cent corn, ranging from 4.15 to 5.14 dollars per hundred pounds depending on wheat form.
