Two separate showers drenched the area since the last publication day. One Saturday brought 12 inches of rain and Tuesday evening delivered .63 of an inch. The Tuesday system moved from the north east toward the south west, fooling many forecasts and catching some people unprepared.
Mrs Eloise Diller Young and her infant guest last week at the home of her father J Smith Diller and family. Mr Young traveled from Seward Saturday evening to visit until Sunday evening followed by Stanley Diller Lon terms show.
Miss Ruth Pyche departed this week by car for Boulder Colorado to enter the city's noted university for a course of study. Her father and Mrs Pyche may travel later with her for a short vacation and accompany her home.

Miss Alice Line resigns as Home Economist with Nebraska Power Co in Omaha and will join Niles Center High School near Chicago to teach Home Economics. She plans to leave for the new job around early September and will spend the summer with her mother Mrs Jennie L Line.

Reverend Frank Mills, 69, died at his Lincoln home after years of poor health. He survived by his wife and four children, with one daughter deceased. Mills served as Methodist pastor at Diller, founded Dwelling House Mutual and Home Savings & Loan, organized Union church at College View, led a 1912 church building, served on College View school board and Lincoln Board of Education, sat in the 1917 legislature, was house chaplain in 1915, and ran for Congress in 1936.
Mrs. Fanny Bush died July 6 after an extended illness at the home of her daughter Mrs. Henry Gilliland in Zillah Washington. She was born Fannie Evelyn Chambers March 31 1861 in Tarkio Missouri and married Amos Bush in September 1881. Eight children were born with seven living Roy Bush Gilliland Julius Chenaur Lloyd Russell Wilbur and Earl Swenberg. Funeral held at Zillah Christian Church July 9 with burial beside her husband who died in September 1930. The Bush family moved from Diller to Zillah in 1899 and remained faithful readers of the Record, prepaid through 1939.
W C Palmer 76 died at his Steele City home July 9 1938 after a long illness. He was the youngest of eight, homesteaded south of Hollenberg in a one room cabin. Survived by wife and three children Mrs May Van De Steeg Nampa Idaho Mrs Amy Numbers Boise Idaho and Wallace W Palmer Steele City. Funeral services Monday at 2PM at the Presbyterian church Rev J E Fillinger officiating. Interment Joy Creek cemetery at Hollenberg.

Jefferson County collects 100 samples of wheat from all areas and records each farmer’s name and wheat variety. Samples will be planted in observation plats for direct comparison and later grading by milling quality purity and adaptability.
