Two Men Severely Burned in Gasoline Explosion
Lester Barber and his son Robert suffered severe burns to arms and body on Thursday while refueling a tractor at Roy Diller's farm during wheat combining. They received first aid at Dr Diehl's office and were taken to Fairbury hospital. Barber blamed gas blowing onto the exhaust as the engine was stopped during filling.

Stratosphere Balloon Flight from Rapid City Fails Again
A National Geographic society Army Air Corps stratosphere balloon exploded one hour before takeoff in Rapid City South Dakota. It was the second failed attempt this year after a prior flight from the same city reached about eleven and a half miles. Parachutes saved the crew, instruments were destroyed, and no injuries occurred.

Agricultural Agent W C Andreas is advised that corn loan refund checks not collected by August 1 will be returned to the State Railway Commission. Checks have been available at the Agricultural agent's office since the first of the month, but many remain.
