Report states Harvey Garrells and helpers captured a Black mother and four young relatives last Friday evening and held them in a cage at his residence amid claims of an exhibition. Authorities are reviewing the incident and detaining suspects.

Velma Webling won a fifth prize at the Fox theatre Beatrice in a veldeville contest held Tuesday evening. The sole winner received a five dollar bill. Miss Bonnie Green performed as the efficient pianist for the event.
The Chinese Daily Times reports on June 18 that Mrs. Tom Sing of King Shing Canton province China gave birth to eight babies, seven boys and one girl, all reportedly alive and well.
Arthur J. Denney of Fairbury county attorney announces his run for Congress in the 4th district on the Republican ticket subject to the August 14 primary. He condemns the AAA crep restrictions and pig killing program and calls for government manufacture of munitions to curb private profits in arms. He favors taxing government bonds, using the army to capture Dillinger and stop banditry, and preserving constitutional rights.
A good sized crowd gathered along the Burlington tracks at Diller on July 4 to watch the Zephyr pass. The May Union Pacific train impressed less with its yellow color, but the Zephyr appeared bright and beautiful as it glided by. It did not stop, only paused briefly, and moved on. After Beatrice it will visit larger towns, having been at Wymore for an hour on July 4.

Jefferson County commissioners signed the federal relief agreement resuming work next Monday with a 1.93 mill tax levy and use of one fourth of county gas tax funds. Wage rules will be set by FERA at 30 to 40 cents per hour, and the new system unites federal and county relief under one head with stricter rules and planned work projects.
Trade sends Mr and Mrs Chas Waggoner from Castor Street head of Castor to Hartzell residence on Short Street. The Waggoner funeral home was the former property. Base Ball News reports Diller defeated DeWitt 31 to 1 last Sunday on DeWitt ground. Newman hit a home run for DeWitt’s lone run on July 4. Diller helped Steele City by beating them 4 to 0. The main feature was the lilt in the shade.
A rural reader recalls a Chicago wedding at the Century of Progress where Miss Jean May and Mr. Charles Muller wed nude with attendants clothed only in birthday outfits. The couple faces indecent exhibition charges, each held on a $1000 bond.
