The Nebraska Speed Association met in Lincoln to map the circuit for 1908 racing. Three new members Tecumseh Grand Island and Tekamah joined making eight towns contesting honors. Officers elected President F E Kimball Beatrice secretary H V Riesen Beatrice. Purses reduced to 300 with entries open to all comers. Kearney Man Fatally Shot at Local Hotel

Leonard Morton was shot at the American hotel in Kearney by Morgan Lewis a Cheyenne Wyoming miner who had stayed there about three weeks. The pair had been drinking and quarreled. Lewis fired three shots hitting Morton once in the breast causing instant death. Morton was the stepson of J L Nichols and employed by the Union Pacific railroad. Lewis surrendered claiming self defense.

Joke ends in serious charge for Goehner druggist

A. G. Pitcaithley, a druggist in Goehner, was arrested by Sheriff Gillan for selling liquor without a license. The sheriff levy on execution revealed large kegs of whiskey and beer, Pitcaithley pleaded guilty in Seward and was fined $200 plus costs. It is reported to be a second offense.

Lincoln auditorium to host state poultry show in January

Secretary L. P. Ludden of the State Poultry Association expects the Lincoln auditorium to reach capacity for the Nebraska poultry show set January 20 to 25. The event aims to top prior shows in entries and quality, boosting Nebraska's standing in poultry. The Western division of the National White Wyandotte Society will hold its annual show in conjunction with Nebraska. The Wyandotte district runs from Indiana to the Pacific coast.

Normal Training Class Visits Lincoln Schools

Superintendent Gamble of Plattsmouth high school led a seventeen student normal training class to Lincoln. They toured the state house with State Superintendent Mee Brien in the forenoon and visited the state farm and university in the afternoon. At the farm a seed corn lecture was given to the group.

Largest number of convicts at Nebraska penitentiary

Warden A. D. Beemer reports 407 convicts, the highest total ever here, with 404 on December's last day. December saw 34 admissions, 6 discharges, 2 paroles, 1 conditional pardon, and 1 execution. Harrison Clarke, Omaha, died in custody. 270 prisoners were employed by the contractor.
