Republican Kenneth S. Wherry filed for a second term citing Pawnee City roots as campaign in Nebraska. George Tunison of Omaha, a lawyer and personal friend, is named as organizer for Wherry’s bid.
A crowded Ditler High School Gym hosted a feature basketball game pitting Diller men against Odell with Diller winning 18 to 12 after weigh-in and eligibility rules. Odell toppled Diller Town Team 22 to 7 in a separate matchup. Sophomore and Freshman squads lost in overtime to Harbine. Girls volleyball and freshmen basketball teams advanced to Daykie Favitations tournament assignments as Diller hosts Bruning and Carleton. Shoppers eyed discounted cosmetics and personal care items while local residents shared hospital updates and New Year greetings from Beatrice to Linesville.
A holiday gathering list notes guests at Jacob's Cafe and multiple Nebraska households. Attendees include Elias Hadley Bert Bell and Mrs Barton, Mr and Mrs Lee Calkins, Beatrice visitors John Thompson Mrs Marjorie Willets Loren Lincoln, Mr and Mrs Frank Cully Diller, A W Clausen couple, Mark and Joyce Beatrice, and Frank Wiemers family sharing Christmas Day dinner with relatives and grandchildren.
A new levy system makes taxpayers their own assessors under a passed schedule law. Taxable property will be listed, forms mailed to residents, and assistants to aid individuals in completing the forms will be appointed in communities.

The bride a Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing graduate and Army Nurse Corps member. The bridegroom a Ditler High School graduate and former Air Force pilot. They plan to retire in Port ten.
Paul Lampe won first place in the corn contest conducted by the Fairbury First National Bank last month. His father Rudolph Lampe also placed, with both prizes supplied by Funk seeds. Family members from Fairbury attended the Christmas gathering that followed with gifts exchanged among relatives and neighbors.
The St Pauls church held two services on Sunday with a vote by the congregation to continue the schedule. Future services are 9 AM first service 10 AM church school and 11 AM second service. At the central meeting Martin Weecs and John Huttenmeyer were elected to fill two vacant church council seats.
Firemen failed to locate a blaze in Diller during a heavy snowfall delaying response after a new truck issue. Later reports said only a barn fire caused minor damage. The column notes a wedding trip to Red Cloud and a lodge installation at Masonic Hall, plus community notices on local church and business events.

The Protestant Orphans Home established in 1933 has changed its name. The Colman council and trustees hint at the new title The Hill. Max Logan and Robert Diller are named as trustees. The home will remain a foundation supporting orphans and related welfare work.
The Diller Community Club party, postponed from last Friday, will be held Friday January 9 in the high school gym. Also, Petrolman Examiner will visit Fairbury Courthouse on Wednesday afternoon January 21 to administer operator license examinations. Dr and Mrs Elis depart for California Tuesday with daughter Mrs Ross Hays accompanying. they plan a two month visit to Cecil and family in Tolglewood and other relatives. This marks their first winter away from Diller in 47 years.
The Alexandria Argus suspends publication for the present citing editor reasons in health, lack of help, and a poorly balanced economic system. The weekly paper cites disruptions in staffing and finances as the cause of the pause.
