Francis Plager suffered a painful injury Wednesday when a belt broke striking his upper lip. Two deep cuts required silver clips to close, with dressings applied. the wound is healing nicely.
The Chick Boyes Players drew a full house on Tuesday after a four week absence. The crowd praised the drama The Worm Turns which ran longer than usual. Mr and Mrs Boyes attended with Boyes handling the ticket office duties.
Wayne Porter son of Mrs. Walter Murray of near Steele City died at Odell Tuesday evening at 7 30 from appendicitis. Funeral services will be held Friday at the Presbyterian church in Steele City with Rev. Fillinger officiating. Burial will be in Powell cemetery by Waggoner Brothers.
Students recognized for perfect attendance in the Congregational church Sunday School. Caroline Moore Gloria Miller June Thompson Dean Moore Loris Moore Lynn Thompson listed as attendees with honorable mentions for Connie Mae Clark Doris Renz Dwaine Weigel Glenn Roelfs.
Eleanor Filley announces the birth of an 84 pound boy named Gary Lee Andrews on January 1, 1938. The mother and baby are in Odell Hospital Odell Nebraska and both are doing nicely.
H. Greif and family with his father August Greif relocate from Lanham to the H. E. Green residence in the west part of town. H. Greif becomes Baker Co representative for Jefferson county and will manage the new territory.
Miss Ruth Callander aged 54 died in Covina California on December 30 1937 after living in California for 30 years. She was the daughter of our townsman M Callander.
Office Notes on the school page warn that the school phone has been misused by some. The message urges everyone who contacts the school by phone to read and follow proper conduct guidelines.

They left for Lincoln to catch Ray s Burlington ticket window at 12 o clock midnight. They left the Record man something to assure the Record s coming to their home another year.
Christ Couble of Holleyoke Colorado and Noah Handley of Steele City visited Diller on Tuesday sharing a chicken dinner at Box's Cafe. Couble, once a Diller resident fifty years ago, moved to Colorado where his wife died about two weeks ago. He stopped in Steele City to see Handley before visiting a son in Marysville Kansas.
Women in the men's pinocle club carried the day in a defining test at City Hall last Thursday evening while the players praised good sportsmanship. George Rahman opened the cafe two hours late Friday morning for breakfast.
Lawrence Weigel spent the holidays with his parents near Diller. He works at the Caterpillar Tractor Co factory in Peoria Illinois and specializes in Diesel engineering. The indicator points up for this young man.
Senator Frank Wells toured the Orphans' Home in Diller on Tuesday and reviewed plans for a proposed state highway from Diller south to Highway 3S. He said he has a promise for the road in the spring.

Mr and Mrs J H Smith of Beatrice with Jim my and Parale visited Mr and Mrs Ira Place for New Year Day at their Beatrice home likely sharing holiday hospitality with neighbors and friends.
The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 3113 Fairbury sponsors an essay contest titled The Constitution of the United States and What it Means to Me. Open to pupils 14 to 18 in Jefferson County with 500 to 1000 words. February 22, 1933 deadline. Local prizes 5 and 3 dollars. national prizes include a gold medal 100 cash and a trip to the 1988 Encampment in Washington DC. Claude Reynolds of Fairbury High School leads the effort.
An Occasional Visitor John Hayworth Jr. from Omaha stayed with his uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs Isaac Saylor in Diller from Monday to Tuesday. He works for the Omaha telephone company and reports his mother is recovering. He stopped by the office to pay six iron men for the Record, half backward and half forward, and praised the 40 year column.
Harry Zook with his son Clyde and Clyde's family and his sister Mrs Gertrude James recently arrived from California to attend their mother's funeral and visited Sam Thompson and family on Sunday. Harry Zook and Gertrude are cousins of Mrs Ollie Thompson.
Lucille Barnett traveled by bus from Lincoln to Beat Rice on Tuesday where her father greeted her. She intends to spend a week at her father’s farm home while her mother is reported to be getting along nicely.
Mrs. Fred DeBoer and her son visited Diller last Friday to advance their subscription by one year. Fred enjoys the Record but cannot get about much anymore.
Bud Bell suffered a painful free bleeding cut on the left thumb while butchering at his brother Bert’s farm on Thursday morning. The wound was sterilized and dressed immediately with no serious complications anticipated.
Mrs. Sarah Hughes comes home Monday from Hebron where she spent the winter with her daughter. She is ill and is being cared for by Mrs. Griswold.

Dorcas Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church held a Christmas party on December 23, 1937. Mrs Roy Geer Mrs Keith Hays Mrs Fred Clark and Mrs W S Filley assisted by Mrs Rudolph Hubka hosted forty ladies and children with Christmas games a gift exchange and a lunch of fruit cake cookies and coffee. Mr and Mrs M C Bowen and Gerald entertained several families at a six o clock turkey dinner Thursday with Ovale and Mrs James Hays and Mr and Mrs Keith Hays and daughters and Mr Frank Cully. The evening featured bridge with prizes won by Mr and Mrs Frank Cully. A New Year dinner was later served by Mr and Mrs M C Bowen and son Gerald to Newt Hays John Romisch and children and Edward Bond of Wymore.
YF. Young People’s Fellowship enjoyed another pleasant hour at their weekly meeting in the annex. Ruth Stahl led with the topic Give us this. Eleanor Weigel and Bonnie Thompson served a refreshment. Bonnie Thompson will be leader at the next meeting. P. D.
After holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Wm Behrends Henry Edward and Johnny Behrends returned to Baxter Iowa Sunday morning where they all have work They were accompanied by Arnold Henrichs Miss Wilhelmina returned to Kansas City Kansas Sunday afternoon from Marysville
Mrs. Zella Riddle and family from Denver visited last week with Mrs. Mollie Riddle and other relatives in the area. Maxine Roe Verl and Eldon accompanied Mrs. Zella Riddle during the stay from Monday to Friday.
