Supt. and Mrs. Nelson spent the weekend at Stella Nebraska. A 6 lb daughter was born Friday Jan 30 to Mr and Mrs W M Stewart Riley E Wells. Jdr and Mrs Claude Ellis expect to return home today from a Western Kansas land trip.
Forecast shows mostly unsettled weather with rain or snow on Friday and possibly Thursday night in the west. Temperatures expected to remain steady with no decisive change.
Thos Hand, proprietor of the shoe repair shop next to the office, provides copies of his old home Cou So Dak with local color and reminiscences for the Record.
Mrs J A Kirkpatrick Mr and Mrs Paul Kirkpatrick and their young son Bobby Paul with Miss Ellen Deputy traveled from Pawnee City to visit their sister and aunt Mrs E J Cattlet on Sunday.
Mr and Mrs George Freitag hosted Sunday dinner with guests Mr and Mrs Lewis Spitsnogle of Odell Mrs Elvy Spitsnogle of Lanham Miss Mary James of Hollenberg and Mr Frank Turinsky of Morrowville Kangas.
Beatrice Chamber of Commerce asks Fairbury Chamber to back the bill for a state highway in eastern Jefferson County running through Diller as reported by the Fairbury Journal.
The Diller Commercial club met in City Hall on Monday night to consider widening the railroad crossing at the foot of Main Street and removing surplus threshing rigs near the head of that street.
Elmer Greider sprained a thumb quite badly while butchering one day last week. A baby girl weighing 9 pounds was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Plies Esther Deuchler on Tuesday February 3.
Mr and Mrs Henry Keller and their son Walter from Western Nebraska visited Sunday dinner at the home of Joseph Albright, sharing hospitality and a family meal in the local community.
W. S. Lambert of Guide Rock visited here Monday with his daughter Mrs. D. V. Fanders and family. Mr. Lambert was recovering from injuries suffered in an auto accident a week or two ago.
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Warthen Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Warthen and baby daughter and Mrs. Elsie Mills of Washington Kansas visited Sunday at the home of Mrs. Sarah Warthen. A picture of the four generations was taken.
Arthur E. Price of Kansas City Missouri and former banker of Diller is recovering from a serious illness. He can out and walk several blocks daily and is a brother in law of Frank Nelson of this city. He left Diller about 15 years ago. Reports that he was confined to a wheelchair were in error.
John D. Wiener sues William Wehling of Lanham Gage County and American Mutual Liability Insurance Co of Boston in district court. The action stems from a Sept 12 automobile collision one and a half miles north of Diller wherein Wiener says he sustained serious injuries.
Mrs. Vernon D. Hill received a telegram from Senator Howell announcing Senate confirmation of her re appointment as postmaster at Diller for another four year term. Her current commission expires in April after eight years in the position.
A Sunday gathering at W. N. Sparks home surprised the family with four generations present along with six carloads of relatives. They shared food, took many pictures, and one frame captured four generations together.
Willard Nippert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nippert, was kicked by a horse Sunday, receiving a deep cut on one arm and numerous bruises and facial cuts.
Mrs. O J Mayborn who had visited for several days with Lincoln canes eee returned home Wednesday.
A report notes Pingle's young daughter sustained a deep cut on the forehead requiring surgical aid.
Will and Ray Eick traveled to Shenandoah Iowa on Wednesday to visit the Fields and Mays radio stations.
A. O. and Orvite Richardson returned Wednesday from Farmington Arkansas where they attended the funeral of Mr Thompson foster father of Mr Richardson.
W. M. Stewart cut his right foot badly last week when an axe struck his big toe. The blow split the first joint and fractured the first bone behind the toe.
In the Diller area farmers begin field tasks as a warm spell arrives. Herman Neuman was cutting stalks and Charley Barber plowed on Tuesday, with forecasts suggesting a chill return and a six week winter snap ahead.
Mrs Frank Pearce is recovering nicely from a recent illness, according to family reports.
Mrs Milo Hanson sustained serious injuries when a Ford coupe she was driving rolled over two miles south of Bees City on Tuesday. The cause of the accident was not known.
Mr and Mrs Anwin Hirsch and their son Freddie from Fairbury visited Grandma Pearce Monday evening. She sat up but remained too weak for foot racing, though her strength is steadily improving.
At the annual stockholders meeting of the Diller Telephone company the directors elected for the ensuing year were L Loock W E Mudge Geo Riddle Paul Stange J Smith Diller R W Green and C L Geer. In a subsequent directors meeting officers were chosen with EB Loock as President W E Mudge as Vice President Paul J Smith Diller as Secretary Treasurer Stange as Manager and George Riddle as Manager.
Mr and Mrs Chester Sparks and Mr and Mrs George Freitag hosted an oyster supper at the Sparks home last Friday evening. Guests included Mr and Mrs Jake Lottman and family Wiemers Mr and Mrs Willis Clark and Carolyn Rose. Miss Seereee was a Brn guest. Supper games followed with Effie learning to make fun of herself. The night featured rock games and many cut pictures. Lydia Krebs won high score with a consolation prize. The gathering ended with thanks to the hostesses for a fine evening.
Myron West Neguss son of Mr and Mrs Alvy Negus born September 25 1929 passed away January 31 1981 at home near Diller Nebraska at age 1 year 4 months 6 days. He leaves his mother and father and two brothers with two sisters predeceased. Funeral services were held from the home at 2 o'clock Monday Rev Fillinger officiating Interment in Steele City cemetery.
We thank everyone who assisted during illness and death of our child and for floral offerings and neighbor and friend support provided by Mr. and Mrs. Alvy Negus and Family.
Mr and Mrs Fred Witty and Dean visiting several days with his mother Sarah Witty and sister Mrs Ryan Green and family returned to Viieths Kansas Monday.
Mrs. E. E. Hill traveled by automobile to attend a weekend visit with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Fouts, arriving Saturday and returning Sunday afternoon.
Mr and Mrs H A Bell visited with their daughter Mrs Don ald Tincher and family in Wy more Sunday adding a family gathering to the weekend.
Harry Patton and editor were attending business matters in Bury Tuesday afternoon. John Greider made a business trip to Lincoln Saturday.
Yesterday prices paid for wheat is 56 cents per bushel, corn 44 and 42 cents, oats 30 cents, cream 23 cents, eggs 12 cents, heavy hens 14 cents, roosters 8 cents. The report lists bargain values for locally traded farm goods in Diller.
