Santa Claus arrived in Diller last Saturday evening delivering free rides to children aided by an engineer conductor and J. lly with a speaker broadcasting Christmas carols. About 350 pieces of candy peanuts and oranges were distributed as the town celebrated the holiday in a well organized event funded by local subscriptions and civic volunteers.
The Congregational Church pageant and Christmas program, delayed from Christmas Eve, will be presented Sunday evening December 30 at 8 o'clock. Practice for the event will be Saturday at 2:30 PM. East residents are urged to attend.
A fragment lists a January 7 to 31 1946 clothing collection by United National Clothing and describes decorations, donors, and Christmas gatherings. It mentions families and neighbors hosting dinners during the holiday, with names like Mrs Robertson Mr and Mrs Hyde Holle and Mavis, and notes the community's thanks to workers at the Ditler Puse office for handling the heavy Christmas mail.
A long December letter from Frank Cavett describes harvests, gear, and parcels valued over twenty thousand dollars. He notes sawmills, traplines, and equipment near temperate towns, plus winter snow, high fruit prices, and a 17th wedding anniversary. Family visits, schooling, and Christmas events fill the extended update.
Pat McElwee Fiselli of Los Angeles sends parting notes including her daughter's army nurse service in Calcutta and her aunt turning 90, as well as a renewal for W W Calkins of Sequim. The letter also mentions Mrs Abert Swall of Nevada and funeral notices for Oliver Wallace with details of services and mourners.
Marie Anne Rhoden daughter of Mr and Mrs Merle Ragden of Fairbury died Tuesday December 18 1945 at age 9. Rev Stephenson conducted Christian service with burial at Fairbury cemetery. Born near Diller May 18 1936 she moved to Fairbury with her parents attended Fairbury schools sang in church junior choir. Surviving her parents two sisters Norma Jean Barbara Louise two brothers Allen Verona Rhea grandparents Mr and Mrs A Rhoden Fairbury and Mr and Mrs H O Williams West Plains Missouri and many uncles and aunts.
The W S C of the Meth dist church held its Thursday December 13 meeting with 24 members present and guests Ardis and Marshall Logan Joan Varney Cheryl Varney and Connie Nixon. Adah Geer led devotions with Christmas scripture and carols. A Christmen donation went to Mother Jewel Home and China relief was collected for. A gift exchange followed. Refreshments were served by the committee. A subscription renewal from Mrs Elmo Hadley of Williams California was noted for her daughter Mrs LeRoy Mason at Sturgeon Missouri. Harry Greider and daughter Wilma moved to a new home at 1321 F St Fairbury.
