Winter begins as calendar marks first day of cold season

Winter started Monday per the calendar after a cold month passes. Mrs M E Geer visited Fairbury Saturday to see her son Curtis Geer and family. Jack Wheeler from St Edwards arrived Tuesday to spend time with sisters Mrs H K Shutt and Mrs Will Henrichs.

Jefferson County District Court Terms Set for 1920

District Court Judge Pemberton announces the 1920 terms for Jefferson county. First term begins March 8 with jury called March 9. Second term starts June 21 without a jury. Third term opens December 6 with jury called December 7. No grand jury will be summoned without court order.

Petition to widen road in Elm township seeks reopen

A petition filed with the county clerk requests reopening and widening a road between sections 19 and 30 in Elm township to legal width. About thirty petitioners allege landowners at the township west end forbade travel through their fields and one neighbor was prevented at gunpoint. A separate assault complaint was filed this morning.
