Santa Claus will arrive Saturday afternoon as announced last week. The Diller Band will play on Main Street at 2:00 PM and greet Santa as he comes in from the north. If weather allows he will meet children outside the gym. otherwise treats will be distributed inside the gym.
The community Christmas program will be presented at the opera house tonight by students of Diller public school under the music department. One hundred children will sing in groups and chorus, appearing together on the program once. Churches sponsor the event and all are invited.
County superintendent Mc Creight spent Saturday evening in town visiting friends. Mrs McCreight attended a Sunday school class guild at the Steele City Presbyterian church hosted by Wm Wehling. Mrs McCreight was formerly a teacher in Steele City schools.
Mr. F. Kirchhoff had the misfortune to slip on the floor of his residence recently, striking the coal pail when he fell. Only minor injuries were received, however.
Mrs H H Beck remains in largely unchanged condition at University Hospital in Omaha as medical notes indicate minimal improvement.
Mrs Henry Arnott Jr. was readmitted to the Hastings State Hospital on Monday for treatment after years of deteriorating health.
Wm Mudge has been ill since the start of the week and his daughter Mrs Harry Wells is staying with him at his home. Vern Casper of Endicott underwent gallstone surgery Tuesday at Odell hospital and is reported quite ill.
Mrs Chester Weaver is reported to be getting along as well as could be expected and is staying at Odell hospital.
The Henry Hullman family living west of town has suffered considerably this week from the prevailing flu.
Chas Mudge, recently very ill, is reported to be improving at his home northeast of town as he recovers from his health setback.
Fred Hauver struggled with influenza earlier in the week but shows improvement in health and handwriting skills.
John Steiner remained at home from Friday through Tuesday due to influenza. He did not seek hospitalization and is recovering at his residence.
Diller Public schools will close Friday December 22 for the holidays and reopen Wednesday January 3. Teachers plan vacations around visits to Syracuse Burr St. Joseph Mo Loomis Lincoln and Denver. The holiday program includes three basketball games with Cortland town team as featured attraction.
Churches announce individual Christmas programs across the area. The Congregational church will present its program on Saturday evening December 23. St Pauls Lutheran Methodist and Hope Reformed plan Christmas exercises on Sunday evening December 24 at their churches.
Mr and Mrs John F Plager of Diller announce the engagement of their son Francis Plager to Velma Mae Cosgrove of Odell. The marriage will take place in the near future.
Dist 56 announces a program and plate lunch Friday night at the school house two miles west of Diller on December 22. Keith Hudson leads the event with a community gathering and meal.
Mr and Mrs Fisher Musser and Paul of Lincoln visited Sunday at the home of his sister Mrs Quinter Fry and family.

Wheat rose to 100 dollars per bushel at the Diller market for part of the week earlier in the week before dropping to 96 cents. Cooper elevator offered 1 dollar for 60 pound wheat from Monday through Tuesday. No sales at the peak. Previous two year low was 50 cents and low grade wheat went to 35 cents in 1938.
W E Andersom decorates an evergreen tree at his residence with colored lights. Porches along Main Street glow with Christmas decorations and lighted trees brighten many windows. The Scott Miller home features a heavily lit porch balcony display, attributed to Miss Marilyn.
Ben Behrends makes winter bouquets and ornamental plants from wildflowers and grasses this fall. Several plants are shown in business show windows including a cotton plant at the Farmer's Store. He left a bouquet and a plant at the Record office yesterday. The bouquet uses pasture thistles coxcomb black berry lily baby breath blue pasture weed and various grasses. The ornamental plant features the butter print weed with burrs painted green attached to the weed stalks set in holes bored in the main stalk. Behrends has crafted more than 35 ornamental pieces for friends.
Mr and Mrs D H Diller arrived from Pittsburg Kansas last week for a visit with sister Effie Clark and family at Diller and with the Eugene Diller family at Fairbury They then went to Lincoln Friday to visit H Z Diller at their home

A free clinic for crippled children will be held at the Fairbury Elks lodge rooms on Thursday December 28 under the Nebraska State Elke Association and Jefferson County Medical Association. Orthopedists from Lincoln and Omaha will examine children free of charge, with 1818 children aided in ten years and the first clinic held June 5 1930 in Berrice. Parents should contact local physicians or Dr Geo W Ainley and doctors and nurses are urged to participate.
Miss Erna Wasserman daughter of Mr and Mrs Adam Wasserman Steele City became the bride of Theodore Lottman of Diller in a Sunday ceremony at the bride’s parents home The Rev Lowders officiated maroon and white decorations highlight the event The couple received many gifts and a two course supper followed by a charivari with about sixty relatives and friends present
Napthall Lodge 206 elected officers for the coming year on Thursday December 14. Horace H Green was chosen Worshipful Master James R Hays Senior Warden Carl Ludington Junior Warden Camp Lee Treasurer Walton I Filley Lecy Gilbert Blauser Tyler Wilbur F Green Senior Deacon John D Steiner Junior Deacon. Bills were approved in good condition and membership slightly higher than last year.
Chas Lucas and his mother plan a move from the orphanage vicinity to a house located 80.1 miles south of town on Dr. Dieh’s property. The change reflects a relocation to a rural residence several miles beyond the city limits.
Dr. O C Diehl died after his Buick left the road struck a culvert and plunged into a ditch near Ashland on the way home from Omaha. He reportedly remained conscious briefly before dying. officials cited heart failure as the possible cause. The car was severely damaged and extraction took two hours. The body was to be brought to Diller. Waggoner Brothers retrieved it from Ashland. Dr Diehl had relatives in Chicago and Lincoln and had accompanied a family member to Omaha for medical care.
L R Mayborn of Beatrice district died last Sunday after a lingering illness at Beatrice hospital at age 59. Survived by son Erwin L Mayborn near Beatrice, daughters Mrs Clyde Thaber near Ellis and Mrs Vern Roll Ottawa Kansas, also parents Mr and Mrs A Mayborn and brother O J Mayborn of Diller. Funeral Tuesday at Christian church Beatrice with Rev Fotts. burial Evergreen Home cemetery Beatrice beside his wife.
Relatives at Belford receive word that Will Leaper aged 95 died at his home in Belford Washington in November 1939. He was the Leasher of the late Albert Leaper of this place. Many locals remember him.
