Joyce Johnson of Beatrice, visiting her parents, traveled to Fairbury on Monday for tonsil removal. She was accompanied by her mother and brother Merle and his family. Joyce is convalescing at her parents’ home in Diller.
Victor Huttenmeyer returned Tuesday from Mennonite hospital after an emergency appendectomy performed Saturday. He is happy to be home and feeling fine. Family members Beatrice, Be and Mrs. Eewia Fanders and Harry joined him, with Darrell Beck of Glen California driving in to surprise aunt and uncle Sam Woods, as both were discharged from the army. Harry served in the Medical corps and Darrell in the army sir corps.
A meeting will be held at the city hall in Diller Nebraska on December 17 1945 to organize a community. Everyone interested is invited to attend and bring important questions for discussion. Don Tincher returned to Lincoln after visiting Urbana Illinois with the Jack Bell family. Mrs Bell was hospitalized undergoing surgery. Mrs Tincher cared for the Bell home. Don also had knee surgery and was recovering in hospital.
The Jefferson County Ration Board and the Selective Service Board will close from December 22 to 26 and again from December to January 1. They reopen December 29 and January 2, 4, and 5 to comply with regulations starting January 1946. Regular hours resume thereafter.
A Christmas program and plate lunch are scheduled for Dist 88 on Monday December AT at 8 o'clock. The event location is 4% miles south and 2 miles west of Diller, hosted by Mary Elizabeth Freitag.
Community invites all to a Christmas program and plate lunch on Friday December 21 at 8 o clock. The event will be held at District 89 located two miles south of Diller and hosted by teacher Della Roelfs.
Mr. Gerd Roelfs has been reported seriously ill at Lynch Hospital in Fairbury. The notice provides a concise health update on his condition.
Mr. Wm. Oldwell visited his brother Lawrence Caldwell then returned to his Garden City Kansas home on Thursday.
Keith Hays who has been in four the past several weeks is reported to be slowly improving as medical updates describe gradual recovery and ongoing care.
J L Lamb aged 86 years 6 months 12 days died December 5 1945 after years of ill health. He formerly farmed near Harbine then Diller and worked in the Pump and Windmill business. He joined the Christian church in 1896 later transferring to the M E church. Survived by four daughters Mrs G Tipstman Sheldon Wis Mrs O Piveral Maryville Mo Mrs Green Diller and Mrs L A Blser Placienta Calif and one brother Wm Lamb Beatrice. Wife predeceased him in 1912. Services held Saturday at 2 pm at the Weegoner Funeral Homes with Rev Watters officiating. Interment Prairie Home Cemetery beside his wife.
A Christmas Vesper service planned for Sunday December 16 at 6 p m at the Congregational church. The Methodist and Congregational churches join for a life like slide narration of the Christmas story with Bible text and songs. The program includes sermons music and a high school chorus under Eleanor Weigel.
Mrs Roy 1 Casper learns from her brother Roe in Hong Kong that orders have been issued to return to the United States. The voyage should take three weeks if smooth, with hopes to arrive in January. Robert Patton also plans a Christmas homecoming, his wife and daughter remaining in San Pedro.
The Diller Woman’s Club holds a December 19 gathering at 2:00 PM hosted by Mrs Bestt Milk Lader. Clarence Steffen presents a Christin topic with fine art roll call and miscellaneous special music.
Frank M Rain USNR set to resume duties as Jefferson County Attorney after serving 25 months with armed forces. He will assume responsibilities soon, returning to public service and legal leadership in the county.
Lauder and Arnold Diekman were married at the Lutheran Parsonage in Marvell Kahnas Tienday December 4, with Rev Bredhoff officiating. Attendants were the groom’s nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cook of Wymore. The couple will reside on the groom’s farm northeast of Diller.
A boy and a girl twins weighing six pounds each were born Friday December 7 at Lynch’s Hospital in Fairbury to Mr and Mrs William Weers. Mother and babies are reported doing nicely.
Denice Anderson of Lincoln was a tonsil patient Monday at Odell hospital. Mrs. Cora Coleman accompanied her granddaughter to Odell, staying at the Frank Beeds home.
Shirley Warrels, a teacher, invites all to a Christmas program and end plate lunch at District 57 on December 20.
Deg 20th Thursday at 8 P M features a Christmas program and plate lunch hosted by Betty Grabher, a local teacher. Location listed as 13 miles north and 4 miles west of Diller.
The Women's Association of the Congregations of Chases holds a joint meeting with the Ken sington and Missionary Depart menter on Friday afternoon December 14 at Mrs A A Eick's home. Mrs Clarence Kens and Mrs Scott Miller lead the program. Mr and Mrs Stephens hosted a five table Pinochle Prides evening with Blanche Lottman as a guest. High prizes went to Mrs Marie Schmidt and Orville Duis. low prize to Edwin Schmidt.
Public auction advertised for Tuesday December 18 includes the blacksmith shop equipment and the house owned by Louie Weng at Steele City. Weng currently works in Oakland California. a related note says Santa will be in Diller Saturday night December 22, see ad next week.
Mrey Lynn Waggoner had visited for two weeks at the home of Lynn’s mother Mrs Clare Waggoner. They returned Friday to Worthington Minnesota with Mrs Waggoner visiting sister Mrs Habicht and other relatives. John Steiser acted as chauffeur on the return trip. They drove Mrs Waggoner’s car and returned Monday evening.
Overseas with the 3767th Quartermaster Truck Company in Manila Cpl. Jess Novotny son of Mrs Minnie Novotny of Diller Nebraska serves as a track driver aiding transport and cargo haul from Manila harbors to army installations. Entered Army Oct 15 1942 arrived Guadalcanal Nov 18 1943 served twenty months before Philippines duty eligible for Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Victory Medal. As civilian he worked on family farm near Diller Nebraska.
A family dinner at the George Champ home honored Mrs. Champs sister Mrs. W L Barket and son Lester C Barket recently discharged from the army, with Ruth Root Anita Kay and others from Holmaville Liberty Barchard Hollenberg Odell Washington and other towns attending a basket noon meal.
Dinner guests Sunday included Mr. and Mrs. Willy Mueller Mr. and Mrs. Frank Weber Mr. and Mrs. Allen Folkers and families visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Blobme.
The carnival raised 190 dollars with Camilla Hubke crowned queen after Beverly Hays won second place. The high school showcased In Old Chicago starring Tyrone Power Alice Faye and Don Ameche. Mrs Haverland was ill and English classes paused as Mrs Hiatt accompanied her son to Lincoln. The school gifted janitor Bill Green with Chester Weaver taking over duties. Invitational Basketball Tournament at Wymore saw Diller lose to Odell and then to Virginia, with Reynolds beating Diller 44-31 in volleyball debut where Reynolds took honors. Basketball schedule lists games through March including district and tournament rounds.
Robert Casper celebrated his eighth birthday on Tuesday December 11 with a group of friends. The evening featured a meal and bingo as entertainment. Guests included Harriet Walker Rathanna Clarey Carol Casper David Watters Alfred Broadstone Gary Blauser and Grandma Casper. Gloria Miller also attended briefly as she shared the same birthday.
Mr and Mrs Ernest Albers and family of Beatrice spent the weekend at the home of his mother Mrs Margaret Albers.
