Joyce Johnson Undergoes Tonsil Removal in Fairbury

Joyce Johnson of Beatrice, visiting her parents, traveled to Fairbury on Monday for tonsil removal. She was accompanied by her mother and brother Merle and his family. Joyce is convalescing at her parents’ home in Diller.

Return from Mennonite Hospital After Emergency Appendectomy

Victor Huttenmeyer returned Tuesday from Mennonite hospital after an emergency appendectomy performed Saturday. He is happy to be home and feeling fine. Family members Beatrice, Be and Mrs. Eewia Fanders and Harry joined him, with Darrell Beck of Glen California driving in to surprise aunt and uncle Sam Woods, as both were discharged from the army. Harry served in the Medical corps and Darrell in the army sir corps.

Important Meeting in Diller Nebr on Dec 17 1945

A meeting will be held at the city hall in Diller Nebraska on December 17 1945 to organize a community. Everyone interested is invited to attend and bring important questions for discussion. Don Tincher returned to Lincoln after visiting Urbana Illinois with the Jack Bell family. Mrs Bell was hospitalized undergoing surgery. Mrs Tincher cared for the Bell home. Don also had knee surgery and was recovering in hospital.

Jefferson County Ration and Selective Service Offices Holiday Schedule

The Jefferson County Ration Board and the Selective Service Board will close from December 22 to 26 and again from December to January 1. They reopen December 29 and January 2, 4, and 5 to comply with regulations starting January 1946. Regular hours resume thereafter.

Obituary of J. L. Lamb fe L Lamb 186?–1945

J L Lamb aged 86 years 6 months 12 days died December 5 1945 after years of ill health. He formerly farmed near Harbine then Diller and worked in the Pump and Windmill business. He joined the Christian church in 1896 later transferring to the M E church. Survived by four daughters Mrs G Tipstman Sheldon Wis Mrs O Piveral Maryville Mo Mrs Green Diller and Mrs L A Blser Placienta Calif and one brother Wm Lamb Beatrice. Wife predeceased him in 1912. Services held Saturday at 2 pm at the Weegoner Funeral Homes with Rev Watters officiating. Interment Prairie Home Cemetery beside his wife.

Mrey Lynn Waggoner had visited for two weeks at the home of Lynn’s mother Mrs Clare Waggoner. They returned Friday to Worthington Minnesota with Mrs Waggoner visiting sister Mrs Habicht and other relatives. John Steiser acted as chauffeur on the return trip. They drove Mrs Waggoner’s car and returned Monday evening.

Diller School News Highlights From Winter Activities

The carnival raised 190 dollars with Camilla Hubke crowned queen after Beverly Hays won second place. The high school showcased In Old Chicago starring Tyrone Power Alice Faye and Don Ameche. Mrs Haverland was ill and English classes paused as Mrs Hiatt accompanied her son to Lincoln. The school gifted janitor Bill Green with Chester Weaver taking over duties. Invitational Basketball Tournament at Wymore saw Diller lose to Odell and then to Virginia, with Reynolds beating Diller 44-31 in volleyball debut where Reynolds took honors. Basketball schedule lists games through March including district and tournament rounds.

Robert Casper celebrated his eighth birthday on Tuesday December 11 with a group of friends. The evening featured a meal and bingo as entertainment.
