Teachers Exams Set For Saturday At Fairbury High
State teachers examinations will be held at Fairbury High School in the home economics room starting 8 a m Saturday Dec 11. Mrs Ed Wolken won a fifty dollar watch in the Beatrice Tuesday drawing. Max Logan completed a new sewer system installation at his home with Albert Sesse and Albert Berz handling plumbing. I will assist income tax filings again this year by appointment at my home call Green 35. Farmers should file between Jan 1 and Jan 15.

Reverend Frederick G. Knauer Dies at 83 in Seward
Frederick G. Knauer, 83, a retired Presbyterian minister, died Saturday at his Seward home. Born in Germany, he came to the United States 65 years ago. Funeral services were held in Seward with interment at Hillcrest Cemetery in Omaha. Surviving are wife Addie and two daughters, Mrs Hop Scott of St George Kansas and Mrs Holle Roiety of Omaha. Knauer previously served as minister to the Diller and Steele City Presbyterian churches forty five years ago.

Community Club Christmas Party Planned at City Hall
The Community Club meets at city hall Friday evening December 10 with President Max Logan showing town scenes. Officers will be elected and a Christmas tree stands on Main Street. A party for all ages is set for December 20 in the high school gym with a new band conducted by Kenny Knowles and two motion pictures. The Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion will help fund treats for children.

Wedding in Disler as Miss Glather Weds Vernon Beran
Miss Shirley Glather daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Wm Glather of Fairbury married Vernon Beran son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Beran of Odell on December 1 at the bride’s grandmother’s home in Disler Rev Forrest Haggard officiated before about 50 guests. The ceremony featured pedestal baskets of white carnations and white chrysanthemums with lit tapers. Russell Bevan and Gussie Shalla provided music. Attendants included Beverly Glather, Loren Beran and Donna Jean Maw among others. The couple will live on a farm near Odell. Also noted were a price raise for Popular Mechanics to 3.50 after Dec 31 and Beatrice Star basketball game attendance notices.

Community tree near the bank building shines brightly as Diller becomes one of the first to place a tree. High school basketball opened with an 88 83 overtime win over Plymouth. Mrs Sandman Celebrates 75th Birthday
Mrs. Sandman marked her 75th birthday with a basket dinner in Jansen attended by Mr and Mrs Snyder and Mr and Mrs Hasche along with 16 relatives. The gathering featured many cards gifts and a group photo as a birthday cake lunch was served before departing.
