Diller Watchs War News From Helsinki Bombing

Diller residents followed the war news broadcast Thursday detailing the Finnish capital’s bombardment by Russian forces. Norman Deuel, United Press correspondent, reported bombs in the streets near his hotel and was knocked down during the broadcast. Deuel and wife Francis Eick had planned Christmas in the United States, their belongings delayed by the war threat after four years reporting from Moscow.

Pleasant precinct hosts active Women’s project clubs and youth rope group

The event featured a Ladies Quartet and speakers including J. Smith Diller and Lester Schmadeke with Vint Logan as chairman. The Pleasant precinct showcases one of the county’s most active Women’s project clubs with 17 members led by Mrs. A A Eick and others. A 14 boy rope club completed by Lester Schmadeke produced two Jefferson County youths at the State Fair, Wellington Dean and Darrel Beckwith, who earned blue ribbons. Jefferson precinct met at Harbine with 34 attendees and Rock Creek convened at the church with 44 adults.

Folkers Family Thanksgiving Visit Near Steele City

John Folkers and family spent Thanksgiving Day with Mrs. Folkers' parents Mr. and Mrs. A. B. James southwest of Steele City. Other relatives were present.
