Corn Crop Ruined by Hot Winds This Week
Optimists held to a corn crop in Jefferson county until last Sunday when hot winds ruined the harvest. The damage extended through Monday and Tuesday leaving little chance of a yield, with fodder prospects also hurt. The agricultural office urges trench silos to preserve what remains. Estimates put corn at 3 to 6 tons per acre. Mr. Rediger notes silage could allow Nebraskans to winter range animals on contract.

Fairbury Band Festival Sponsors Sixth Annual Program
Fairbury's Municipal Band directed by Harold Chate lain will host the sixth annual Band Festival at Fairbury city park on Sunday afternoon August 29. Ten bands will perform with separate concerts and a massed band concert in the evening. Participating bands include Fairbury Municipal Beat rice Geneva Diller Swanton Western Wilbur Nebraska Marysville Washington and Cuba Kansas.

Baby Hinsley Virginia Anna Dies at Lincoln
Virginia Anna Hinsley daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Hinsley was born February 5 1934 in Lincoln and died August 12 1937 at age 3 6 7. Funeral services were held at St Pauls church August 14 with burial in Prairie Home Cemetery. The Hinsley family reside on the Ed Woods place 34 miles southwest of Diller. Cause of death was blood poisoning and lock jaw from a foot splinter. This is the second Hinsley child lost within a year.

41st Annual Picnic Goes Over Big in Diller
The 1937 Diller picnic featured a two day event highlighted by a grand historical pageant and parade. About 350 participants formed 76 units spanning Nebraska’s 70th year with a mile long parade route. Mayor John Steiner led the line as marshal, followed by color bearers Claude Woods and Roy Shultis and riders Edgar Henrichs and Wallace Riddle.

Record's First Appearance and Ira Place Family Connection
Ira Place asked when the Record reached Diller in 1887 and was told November 18. He claimed the Record began in May 1887 on a farm one mile east of town. His father Geo Place subscribed April 20, 1888, and the paper still circulates to the farm weekly without name changes.
