Presumptive Death of Pie Diller Announced

The Navy Department notified J Smith Diller of a presumptive death declaration for his son Private First Class Lloyd Roger Diller USMCR, missing since July 21 1944 after Guam landing. Memorial services set for Sunday August 19 at 8 30 p m at the Congregational Church Diller. family requests no flowers.

New Supt and Family Move to Diller

New superintendent Varney and his wife with two daughters moved to Diller from Haddam Kapas occupying the former Ludington house. He will organize carpentry work for the coming year and keep the town posted on Diller High events. The Pilgrim fellowship workcamp arrives August 18 at the Congregational church for church painting and youth services. Donations of food or rooms are requested and a community picnic is planned.

Major Irwin W Shutt arrived at Norfolk and Newport News aboard a transports ship on July 9 after leaving La Havre France. His wife met him in Kansas City on July 13, and they traveled to Fort Leavenworth for processing on July 9. They visited Omaha Lincoln and Lincoln's town folk before a Lake Country trip and a brief stop in Diller to see Uncle Fred FE. SHutt expects to report to Fort Leavenworth on August 15 and plans a longer stay in Diller after the war.
