Miss Flora Wagoner returns Saturdays from visits with relatives in St. Joseph Missouri and Preston Nebraska.
Mrs. A H Colman departed Thursday for Battle Creek Michigan where her husband Mr Colman plans to join her later.
Mrs. Cal Waggoner traveled last week to visit her sisters Mrs. Millard Gemeny and Miss Beulah Bell in Hiawatha Kansas.
Dr Louis Pitt who attended his father Geo W Pitts funeral here last Friday returned Saturday to his home at Alda Nebraska
Mrs. Maude Grape and her young daughter Evalena visited Diller friends for several days and returned Saturday to their Beatrice home.
Purchasers of sugar must now use sugar cards supplied by their grocer entitling them to receive not more than two pounds per person per month.
A daughter weighing nine pounds was born on Monday August 5 1918 to Mr and Mrs Ben Marshall at their home located one and a half miles north and three miles west of Diller.
Miss Mattie Harvey of Phillips visited her sister Mrs. Elias Hadley and returned Wednesday after a brief stay in Wymore with relatives.
Curtis Geer and his family, who had stayed with relatives for two or three weeks, returned Wednesday to their Hastings home. Geer works for Lincoln Telephone Co and expects a transfer to Fairbury shortly after the Hastings visit.
Two car loads of soldiers from Fort Logan Colorado passed through Diller yesterday. One soldier Bernord Bell a Diller boy telegraphed his coming and was met at the depot by relatives including his parents Mr and Mrs H A Bell and many friends. They greeted him in his kubki suit and extended best wishes. The soldiers had a long trip ahead with day stations on board the train.
Ben Henrichs is confined to his bed by sickness. A few good second hand cars for sale. Mr and Mrs Arthur Wieths visited Camp Funston in their car last Friday. Hillmans Co headed by Hillman performs at the opera house Thursday to Saturday nights. A baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs J H Moulton of Diller at Tobias July 28, living only a few hours.
Notice states the ice house will not be opened after 11 o'clock starting August 1. Rex Green Jr. reports a visit from Mrs. Gertrude Bradley of Oklahoma City who stayed with her parents Mr. and Mrs. H Z Diller.
Chas. Edmunds of Omaha, a Kissel Car salesman, spent Tuesday night with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beckwith, in the local area.
Miss Sarah Crauf of Chicago visits at the home of her sister Mrs. H. A. Bell while en route to Salt Lake City, with other Diller relatives present.
Walter Hauver completed painting the Methodist church with two coats of white paint and did quality work on the building. He is a skilled workman and remains busy with paper hanging and painting most of the time.
The late George W. Pitts of the Diller area had a will admitted for probate. The estate includes two farms left to his wife for life with remainder to their children. Hugh Dobbs is named executor.
H V Nellis Republican candidate for treasurer canvasses the county. current register of deeds, longtime Rock Island division store keeper, praised as qualified and efficient. He pledges full-time dedication if elected, urging voters to mark an X for him on August 20.

Mrs Wiseman and her granddaughter Ruth Miller, who visited here a couple of months with Mrs Roscoe Colman and family, returned Tuesday to their home in Omaha.
Miss Katherine Roache a former Diller teacher and Miss Mary Roache a trained nurse travel to New York City awaiting transport to hospitals in France for medical service.
Directors announce Children’s Day at the Thayer County Fair on August 28. Tickets available at the office for day and evening grand stand access. Any pupil of school age may obtain one by calling.
From the vicinity of Diller a group attended a tractor demonstration at Salina Kansas last week. Names include Clarence Steffen Cecil Ellis Cedric Fanders Ben Henrichs Ernest Sasse and Henry Wiemers. Steffen and his party returned via Ft. Riley and Camp Funston.
Mrs. Riley Tucker receives a note from her son Frank at Blair where he visits an uncle. He says Blair crops are poorer than home with wheat yielding 16 to 25 bushels and oats 35 bushels. corn prospects look dim due to no rain since May. Frank plans to return in a week or ten days.
The 22nd annual fraternal picnic at Diller on Thursday August 15 features a patriotic program. Hon. Chas E Matson of Lincoln will give the main address, Home Guards exhibit drill, DeWitt Municipal Band, and a merry go round with races contests and amusements for all. The committee invites everyone to the state’s biggest picnic.
The Record will print Friday next week instead of Thursday due to the picnic. Fred W. Schneider of Plymouth is listed among allies killed in battle in France. Mr and Mrs Orval Riddle and their child arrived from Yuma Colorado and will visit relatives at Diller and Odell around the picnic.
Mr and Mrs Paul Logan returned to their home at Shea last week from Omaha where Mr Logan was operated upon in the Methodist hospital for appendicitis. Mr and Mrs S U Maw and daughters with Mrs H H Green and Miss Faye Maw and Miss Francis Knouse and Miss Lilian Wohlfarth motored to Beatrice Saturday in Mr Maw s new car.
Clyde Hutchinson irons a spring crop of wheat on his father in law’s Colorado land and may move there next spring. Harold Hutchinson handles Route 1 mail during Clyde’s absence.
Saint Pauls Lutheran members and friends held a picnic at Dick Albers home last Sunday. Proceeds totaled 41.43 contributed to the local Diller Red Cross fund, supporting relief efforts.
Charley Barber and party including Herbert Barber Harry Weddle Volney Raymond John Pulec and H H Green with spouses enjoyed a picnic dinner on the banks of the Big Blue river at DeWitt last Sunday.
The service schedule lists 10 a.m. Sunday school and 11 a.m. morning worship. Immediately after, the Lutheran War Saving Stamp Society will meet. All members urged to attend. Choir practice at 8:30 p.m.

Mrs. Nancy Clark sustained a severe left wrist injury when a fish bowl she carried broke. Arteries and tendons were severed requiring immediate treatment by Drs Bauguess and Diehl. Her daughter Mrs Limprecht summoned help. doctors sutured the wound and she rests, improving slowly but with potential complications.
Former Diller girl Miss Kitty Tatman now living with her parents in Lincoln has registered as a student nurse and plans to go to a cantonment for training.
George W. Pitts born September 16 1844 in Rosas County Ohio died August 1918 near Diller Nebraska at age 73 years 10 months 15 days. He married Albina J. Runnels in 1865 and had seven children. A longtime farmer and devout church member, he lived in Ohio Iowa and Nebraska before passing. Funeral services were held Friday at the Methodist church with Rev H W Wagner officiating.
