An Acme cream advertisement extols pure butter fat rich ice cream and fruit flavors. It promises strict federal inspection, safe ingredients, and a clean service with both classic and new soda drinks and fancy ice creations.
A collage of humorous lines about a fly at meals followed by a flurry of local notices. Births, illnesses, family moves, farm reports, and occasional criminal or civil matters from Diller and nearby areas. Names include Colman House, Colman bags, Vint Logan, J.E. Long, Bert Etchison, Emma Fry, Worth Dowling, Henry Steffen, Nancy Bowsher, E. H. Dowling, S. C. Hutchinson, Chipperfield, W. A. Cherry, Elmer Greider, and Emma Greider estate details. Reports of fires, farm yields, deaths, and guardianship petitions add to the community snapshot.
In an adjourned meeting last night the village trustees decided to turn the keys to the city over to the fraternal picnic committee for August 11. The committee will run all concessions and collect licenses, with proceeds to defray picnic expenses.
Next Thursday is picnic day with orders for job printing to the Record printery. A sister of Mrs. W E Epley arrived from Wyoming for a visit. Miss Gladys Cully expected home from Es bow Kaw. Clyde and Ethbel Zook stayed with their sister Mrs. J Thompson. AE Tristman went to Wymore and Blue Springs to promote the Diller picnic and seek more free attractions.
Joe Madden a farmer from 4 1/2 miles northeast of Diller sustained severe injuries when his wagon collided with a motorcycle driven by Ellis blacksmith Klassen. Madden fell and fractured an ankle, bones protruding from the foot, and was taken to Beatrice Sanitarium for treatment. Hood, Madden’s partner, escaped unhurt as his team fled before stopping.
Miss Eva Witty returns to duty after illness. Mr and Mrs L P Raymond visit relatives at Fairbury on Sunday. Dr Ellis and family expected home Sunday from a trip to Colorado and Wyoming.
Mrs. M. Clark of Grant county Oklahoma arrived Tuesday to visit Grandfather and Grandmother Meikle. Mrs. Jennie Bixby traveled to Geneva Sunday to consult Dr. Joseph Bixby about her daughter Edith Bixby, who was admitted to a Concordia Kansas hospital last week.
C A Guren of Diller Nebraska invites teams to a picnic at Hartzell’s feed yard and sheds near the grounds. He promises plenty of feed, shade, and cool water with reasonable prices and fair treatment. Gate price is at the south side of the bridge near the grounds.
Mr and Mrs Albert Woods traveled to Missouri on Tuesday to see his father who is very sick. The note mentions meal tickets five dollars, table board four dollars fifty cents weekly, and a family update. Lambs returned Thursday from Sycamore Springs Kansas, with health improving.
Sunday school at the usual hour and preaching at 11 o’clock. All congregation members urged to attend as the Epworth League meets at 7 p.m. Union services at the Presbyterian Church in the evening led by Rev. C. S. McCuvure, Pastor.
Rev M H Kearns D D former Beatrice pastor and Nebraska missions head will preach at Diller Presbyterian Church next Sabbath August 7 at 11 am. Full attendance urged for members and others interested.
