Lyla Gillig daughter of Rev and Mrs W N Gillig formerly of Diller suffered a bad right arm fracture and a left arm fracture in a recent fall. A few days later another fall worsened the left arm fracture. Many friends express concern.

Mr and Mrs Chas Brandt and other relatives in and near Diller returned Saturday to their home in Pueblo Colorado.
The Rev and Mrs H W Wagner departed Monday on No 17 for a two week vacation in Boulder and other Colorado resorts to aid Mrs Wagner's health.
J. W. Pouts was named referee yesterday as the court ruled for the plaintiff in the partition action of Home Savings and Loan Association versus Caroline Frisbie et al. Beatrice Express.
Grace Myers Gretchen and Lillian Wohlfarth returned from a visit with friends in Lincoln. Gretchen Wohlfarth is on a week’s vacation from her job at Citizens State Bank.
Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Colman left for Racine Wisconsin to visit her brother Leslie Osborn a stockholder and cashier of the American National Bank. They will spend a few weeks at a summer resort in Michigan.
J. W. Fouts who came from Colorado to attend the Alex Bell estate sale as referee returned to Boulder on Saturday with his wife. They will stay there until cooler weather after Fouts was overcome by heat two or three weeks ago.
Early Tuesday morning eastern bound Burlington train No 14 struck a herd of 43 cattle near Duell. Fifteen were killed instantly, nineteen were fatally injured and had to be killed, nine escaped. Twenty cattle belonged to Frank Bevan, ten to Frank Hubka, four to John Bures. The herd broke a pasture fence and lined the track. engineer Bill Tipton saw the cattle as the train rounded a curve and could not stop in time.
F. J. Freytag departed on No. 16 Wednesday heading to Auburn and Lincoln to handle matters tied to his father's estate settlement.
Mrs H K Shutt and her children left Beatrice on Wednesday with Mr Shutt driving to visit her parents in St Edwards Nebraska.
Misses Alice and Adelia Hayes with Master Kieth Hayes and Miss Mary Edgington travel from Burlington to Colorado Springs for a vacation. Dr. E. E. Steffen and wife of Des Moines are visiting relatives, as are Dr. A. F. Steffen of Scotts Bluff Nebr., at the Steffen home.
Rev and Mrs H A Teckhaus shipped their household goods and left yesterday in a Studebaker roadster for Nee Nebr where he had accepted the pastorate of a local church.
Mrs. E. L. Loock and daughter Charlotte with Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Henrichs of Gilead depart by car to Peoria Illinois to visit Mr. Loock's mother and other relatives.
Mr. Wm Sonnenberg's farm house burned Tuesday before noon. It was insured in the Jefferson County Assessment Association, with F. W. Steffen as secretary, and the loss was adjusted Wednesday.
Mr and Mrs A Mayborn with Mr and Mrs Henry Williamson of Beatrice travel by Burlington on a pleasure trip through Billings Montana the Yellowstone National Park Salt Lake City and several Colorado summer resorts.
John Novotny comes back to Wilber Nebraska living with his son in law and daughter following a divorce suit filed by his wife. They have reached a settlement deed transferring the home to a son and a 160 acre farm near Shea with annual annuities for each. Mrs Novotny is to obtain the divorce at Jefferson county district court next term.
Beatrice Driving Park will host a sanctioned auto race meet on Tuesday August 7 with the International Motor Contests Association. Licensed professional drivers will compete for a $5,000 purse across eight fast events featuring ten star drivers. The sanction governs dirt track racing in America and confirms the Beatrice track as a designated facility.
The Misses Fern Hayes Minnie Edgington Lillian Wohlfurth Flossie Raymond Ruth and Faye Davis returned last Friday from Peru where they attended summer school at the State Normal. Miss Raymond graduated and received a life certificate.
Nebraska State Fair officials set Labor Day as the opening for a speed program and clinched Sig Haugdahl for the big week. The Norwegian driver, who wowed Lincoln last year with a record half mile dirt track time, is poised to blaze a trail of new marks. Rival fairs in Minnesota and Indiana State offered large bonuses, but Lincoln outbid them to secure his entry.
