Miss Billie Bristor daughter of A. W. Bristor of Dodge City Kansas became the bride of Max Hill son of Mrs Ina Hill of Beatrice Nebraska at 8 oclock Tuesday April 8 1941. Rev Louis H Kaub officiated at the Beatrice Methodist church. Both grew up in the community and are Diller High School graduates. The bride has served as librarian at the Diller library for five years. The groom is a farmer. They will reside on the Hill farm four miles south and one mile east of Diller.

Mrs Pyche Improves After Serious Illness in Scribner

Jefferson County sent Eleanor Pavlicek Ruth Houser Shirley Garrels and Dale Weaver in the Inter County Spelling Contest held at Wilbur on April 7 with 13 counties and 47 students competing. Shirley Garrels placed fifth in the oral contest and Harold Wladlicka won both oral and written titles while Pauline Brungardt and Eugene Von Fange earned top placements.

Obituary of O. N. Garnsey Ward at Fairbury and Sikeston
Oscar N. Garnsey Ward died at his Sikeston Missouri home after moving there months ago to be near his daughter. A long time Fairbury resident, he served 14 years as clerk of the district court and later worked in real estate. Survived by wife a daughter Mrs G T Boone and sister Mrs W F Cramb. Funeral services were held in Fairbury.

Pioneer Music Festival Showcases Young Jefferson County Talent
Young musicians from all parts of Jefferson County gathered at the Diller Opera House on Friday April 4 for a county music festival judged by Mrs. Mary Hall Thomas. About 200 students participated in vocal and instrumental solos, groups, and a massed chorus of 160 voices concluding with a Czech folk song. The event highlighted a shift from rivalry to a wholesome festival spirit and noted improved quality since 1939.

Lottie Mason born September 29 1863 in Appleton Wisconsin died April 6 1941 in Beatrice Nebraska aged 77 years 6 months 8 days. She taught in rural Wisconsin and near Odell and Diller Nebraska over fifty years ago. She married Jesse W. Miller and lived in Diller until 1905 then moved to Beatrice. Survived by son Hugh M. Miller of Coolidge Arizona and sister Ida Falkner of Stanley Wisconsin. Active in Women’s Rights and Temperance, member Naomi Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Services at Waggoner Funeral Home Pastor W H Clark officiating. Interment Prairie Home Cemetery Diller beside husband.

John L. Carico born April 7 1862 in Knoxville Illinois died April 2 1941 at his Diller Nebraska home at age 78. He moved from Falls City to Diller in 1926 and is survived by wife four children Dora predeceased William Edna Williamson and Wesley plus four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral at Diller Methodist church officiated by Rev W H Clark with interment at Falls City Nebraska.

Local farmer shows giant egg from mixed breed hens
Full Meal-One Egg James Novotny displayed a very large egg in town. He notes his hens are a mixed breed of Orphingtons and Rhode Island Reds. The egg measured 74 by 94 inches in circumference and weighed seven ounces, far larger than a goose egg and about triple a typical store egg of two ounces.
