The Protestant Orphan's Home asks Dilier to sell a small tract east of the new road fill, former slaughter house ground. County commissioners relinquished claim to the old roadway. sale requires citizen approval at next Tuesday's election with a sample ballot in another column. Citizens are urged to vote FOR the proposal to beautify the orphanage grounds.
W E Ludington brother of coach Carl Ludington accompanied him from near Pawnee City to Diller on Sunday. The Peru Teachers College senior had been invited to Barneston to meet the Board of Education and apply for the high school coaching job.
Mr and Mrs Elias Hadley purchase the G T Mills home at the northwest corner of the depot with the adjoining one and ten acre tract across the street. The Hadleys do not plan to occupy the property immediately.
Mr and Mrs Abner Bristol and their children Esther and Raleigh traveled from Fowler Kansas on Thursday evening. Abner works for the National Gas Company and was sent to repair a telephone line near the Legget farm southeast of Diller where a pipeline runs east of town.
Hod Green will relocate to the north part of town around May 1. He recently purchased the Gretzinger property from Esther Gretzinger of Fairbury, the old house built by Ben Pearce.
Miss Wealthy Fasnacht visited Beatrice from Friday to Sunday as a guest of her parents Mr and Mrs Albert Fasnacht and other family members.

C. H. Koenig of Plymouth relocated his family to Fairbury. Koenig served as county commissioner for several years and retired from the board January 1 last.
Mr and Mrs Cal Waggoner and son Kieth spent the weekend in Kansas City with their daughter and family Mr and Mrs Virgil Geer and baby.
Henry Diller arrived in Diller Tuesday evening from Denver for a short visit at his father J. Smith's home.
The annual Father and Son banquet will be held next Thursday evening April 8 at the D. S. Gym. Plans aim to seat about two hundred men and as many boys. Tickets cost 75 cents for man and boy. Tickets available at Clark's store or from committee members Francis Clark RR W Green and Scott Miller.
Gravel is moving through Diller by truck from the Blue River north of Steele City onto the new P. W. F. highway one and a half miles north of town. Some gravel was hauled onto the mile between the county line and the cemetery last winter but bad roads and weather halted the work.
Harbine votes next Tuesday to elect two trustees to the village board. Ballot lists Dick Ommen S Cuthbert E G Wilson Otto Schneulle and Jacob Detter, with expected tie possibilities. Total ballots not to exceed 35.
Mr and Mrs Callander arrived home from California Monday noon. They enjoyed a pleasant winter despite unusual southern California weather. They visited their son Lloyd and wife in Durango Colorado and also stopped in Denver. Both look well and Mr C moves about like a Springer.
The Diller Firemen will unveil a mysterious "Big Blue Bag" at the Diller Opera House on Saturday April 10. Bills of particulars will be scattered around that day and in next week’s Record. The event promises wide interest in the blue bag reveal.
The biennial Head Camp convention of the Woodmen of the World Life Insurance association in Nebraska and the Dakotas will be held on April 12 and 13 in Beatrice Nebraska. W G Johnson head consul of the jurisdiction from Omaha announced the event.
Deshler reports consolidation of two rural main routes into a single continuous route. Paul Grapleman now holds the consolidated route authority and will oversee the merged roadway.
The Library association will hold its annual meeting at the Library on Monday April 5 at 0 o'clock.
Election day is next Tuesday when citizens may elect village Trustees and Board of Education members. S.C. Moser and John Pulee run without opposition for two-year Trustee seats. Dr Viers and Ray Green seek re election to three year terms on the Board with Francis Clark and Mrs John Pulec opposing. Also vote on selling land by the creek to the orphanage.
The Chick Boyes show Litt Orphan Annie drew the largest audience of the season last Tuesday, with seats filled and extra chairs brought in. Many adults expected the famous cartoon character but were told by attendees the stage version bore little relation to the Little Orphan Annie name.
The Jefferson County Spelling Contest will be held in the Fairbury court room on Saturday April 3. Miss Ruth Wallace of Endicott will preside and Miss Katheryn Lambert will conduct the contest.
The library reports strong turnout with twenty four children at the past Tuesday session. Starting next Tuesday story hour will serve children up to the sixth grade and on Thursday nights after school for fourth grade and up. All children are welcome.
Artist Ben Behrends showcases molded figures in fire clay at the Farmers Store north window exhibit. A man and woman supervise the display with a variety of wild fowl domestic fowl and animals on view.
Wilbur Green purchased the Ab Bristol residence north of Mrs Raymond’s home last Saturday. The property had been assigned by Bristol to HOLC and is undergoing repairs. The Greens will move in once repair work is finished.
Ray EB Bigler of Harbine announced in the Record an advertisement about the Huber Tractor and the opening day of his implement business in Harbine set for Wednesday April 7.
Mr and Mrs Harold Bowers and their children left Sunday afternoon for Sutherland Nebraska after visiting relatives and friends here. They have bought a drug store in Sutherland and plan to operate it there.
Dr. Diehl and his son Oliver of Beatrice visited Easter Sunday at the Lincoln home of Dr. Diehl's daughter Mrs. W. M. Steffensmeyer and husband.
Several cars carried Diller Woman's Club members to Jansen yesterday afternoon to meet with the local club at that place.
Local Post 24 of the American Legion offers a medal and certificate to the outstanding eighth grade boy and girl. Teachers score boys on courage leadership honor service, and a 20 point per trait system excluding scholarship. girls on courage honor home making service and scholarship. The top scorers are invited to meet the Legion Committee for final selection and the winners are announced at eighth grade promotion with Dr. George W. Ainley presenting awards.
The State Superintendent examinations for seventh and eighth graders will be held at various high school points across the county on Tuesday April 20 and Wednesday April 21. Tuesday includes Arithmetics Grammar Writing Civics General Geography Physiology. Wednesday covers Reading Drawing English Composition Bookkeeping and farm accounts Agriculture Geography of Nebraska Mental Arithmetic and Spelling. seventh graders may take starred subjects.

Mrs Christie Seaman arrived home Tuesday evening after wintering with relatives including the Dave Diller family in Pittsburg Kansas and her brother Wallace Clark in Oklahoma City. She spoke of spending Monday night in Kans City with Mrs Kurtz's daughter Mabel and noted it felt strange to build fires upon her return.
Eighteen young men aged 17 to 25 were enlisted at the Navy Recruiting Station in Omaha on Tuesday March 30. They hailed from Nebraska South Dakota and Iowa. On Friday April 2 six Omaha boys will be called for recruit training.
The United States Navy surveyed the telegraph cable line across the Pacific from Hawaii to Guam and from the Philippine Islands to Japan, charting potential routes for undersea communication.
County 4-H leaders will meet to outline a Jefferson County 4-H Club program for 1987. With over 2000 potential members, the effort aims to train farm youth in production social and economic skills to improve citizenship.
