Voters urged to cast ballots in town and school elections

Voters are reminded to vote on Tuesday April 6 from 8 am to 8 pm. Village trustees candidates include Mayor Johan Clausen O R Geer and W E Anderson. School board candidates are Herman Stahl Robert Upson Scott Miller and Floyd Hughes who has moved to Fairbury. For the two year school board vacancy the options are W I Filley and D W Fanders. A ballot copy appears elsewhere.

Diller Track Team Plans Week-Long Meet Schedule

Diller High School track squad began practice last week and aims for away meets during the week of April 5 to 9. The home debut will be a dual meet with DeWitt on April 12 or 13. An invitational at Diller is set for April 27, qualifying contestants for the state meet in Lincoln, with seven schools already signaling participation.

Dates for Red Stamps Guide Thrifty Meat and Cheese Use

The notice explains how red stamps cover meats fats and oils with staggered dates. A stamps valid March 29 to April 30 B stamps April 5 to 30 C stamps April 12 to 30 and D stamps April 19 to 30 to prevent overspending early in the month.

Diller Names Henry Scheele New Marshal and Road Overseer

The Diller village board accepted John Greider’s resignation as marshal and water commissioner and appointed Henry Scheele as his successor with added road overseer duties. Scheele begins April 1. Greider, marshal for two years, improved the park’s appearance. his future plans remain undisclosed.

War Department Allows Limited Mail For Overseas Servicemen

Sealed under eight ounces may be sent postpaid by first class to army navy marine corps and coast guard personnel overseas without command officer permit. Pens watches cigarettes eyewear and similar items permitted if rules followed. Exceeding eight ounces requires approved request at local post office. Newspapers may renew but new subscriptions for servicemen not accepted. Ronald Weers son of Mr and Mrs Weers placed third in oral and written spelling at Fairbury and qualifies for Inter county contest at Wilber in April.

Retailers must register canned and processed foods on Form R 1302 at the local war price and rationing board office. Mr and Mrs Henry Hulimen learned of sister in law Mrs Bertha Huil mee's death from Stamford Kane on Wednesday.

Pleasant Precinct Over Top in Red Cross Drive

Mrs. Scott Miller announces Pleasant Precinct exceeded its $700 goal, raising $705.27 for the Red Cross War Call. She thanks workers and contributors and notes plans to list donors weekly and provide tags and cards to all who gave.

Diller Plans April Grade Operetta at Opera House

Next Tuesday evening April 6 the Diller Opera House hosts the annual grade operetta Children of Buttercup Commons. A high school talent program replaces the county music festival with 35 grade children in the operetta and a student program supervised by Mrs. Bernice Goebel and the high school faculty.

Angus Sale Lists Thirteen Year Old Boys In Attendance

A local Angus sale featured a group of thirteen year old boys among buyers and observers. The event drew families and farm teams to the sale grounds with kids watching keenly as cattle changed hands under the auctioneers’ calls.
