Vicious Attack on Jess Jessen in Iron Mountain

Five men attacked deputy sheriff Jess Jessen and his wife after a car collision near Iron Mountain. Jessen received eight knife wounds and was beaten. Mrs Jessen was struck with a rock. Three assailants were jailed, two escaped to Wisconsin, and remain at large.

Mikado at Crystal Falls High School Delights Local Audience

Crystal Falls presented The Mikado at City Hall Auditorium on May 14 led by Miss Jean Daggett. Evelyn Conlin debuted as Katisha with strong stage presence while Dorman Ball impressed as Ko Ko. The cast also featured Caroline Delle Yum Yum Robert Fetereon Mikado and Edward Gunther Pooh Bah. Choreography included Eileen Richards Japanses Umbrella Dance and a lavish stage with cherry blossoms lanterns and East Asian costumes.

Judge Denies New Trial and Reduces Duff Dermott Verdict

Circuit Judge Flannigan denied the motion for a new trial in the Duff Dermott case but reduced the verdict to 2000 dollars. The jury had previously awarded 4000 dollars, which the judge noted should be doubled to reflect the court's action, making the final amount 4000. Women’s Auxiliary Forms At Legion Club

The Women’s Auxiliary to the American Legion completed its setup last Wednesday at the Legion Club rooms. Officers chosen include President Mrs Conlin Vice President Mrs Vanderpoal Secretary Mrs Uren Treasurer Mrs Charron and executive committee members Olson Mortenson and Bickford. Meetings are the first and third Wednesdays. eligibility extends to mothers daughters and wives of ex service men. A membership drive will begin soon.
