Fire sweeps through Marble Factory and nearby buildings
About four o clock Friday morning a fire broke out in a two story frame building behind the First National Bank used by G W Fox as a marble factory. Flames spread rapidly threatening the Empire Building and adjacent livery barns and warehouses. Firemen and citizens fought the blaze until brought under control, saving the Newton and Poe properties though the Fox Marble stock and several smaller losses were destroyed. A later note reports an arson attempt at Garrettsville on Orgel Brothers store with $8000 in goods insured, and suspicions of motive behind the act.
