A troop train plunged from a trestle after the engine tender jumped the track, killing at least sixteen aboard and pinning nine under debris. Ambulances from all hospitals were used, with wagons and trucks improvised as cots to care for the injured.
Details of a Mobile & Ohio wreck 60 miles north of Mobile killing 25 enlisted men and wounding 100 plus as a relief train ferries 102 injuries to hospitals while 25 die waiting for care. 175 men and four officers aboard headed to the Alabama Mississippi fair at Meridian. In St. Louis on October 20 fifteen people were injured when the Chicago and Alton midnight special from Chicago to St. Louis wrecked between Alton and Granite City near Lakeside Military Academy. All cars telescoped. engine stayed on track as coaches tore up 500 feet of rail. Spreading rails likely caused the crash. Jenna, Oct. 20. While celebrating at Casa Harbor Grace, Bishop Marsh was shot and slightly wounded by James Hare, a member of the congregation believed demented. Hare fired two shots at the bishop before several men disarmed him. A bullet grazed the bishop’s head. services continued after his head was bandaged.
In Payton Ohio on October 20 Walter Kyelt a 30 year old plumber and his wife Rut 25 died when their car was struck by a fast Pennsylvania train near their home six miles west of Dayton. Their four year old son Wiley was fatally injured. Bodies were found 60 feet from the crossing.
In Cleveland on October 20 C C MacKison and J D Cargould were paroled after indeterminate sentences for attempted burglary of the Ohio Equity association offices to obtain referendum petitions. Meekigombax forfeited his office. The notice cautions Weriners about creeping into print.
Cattle on William Haworth's farm near Findlay became intoxicated after drinking water mixed with leakage from a silo containing corn mash. The herd reeled and staggered about the pasture as the mixture acted like moonshine whiskey.
A South western Interurban limited car crashed head on with a city streetcar in Mansfield on October 20 injuring one passenger and breaking the interurban car. John B. Hunt, the city car motorman, was hospitalized with a broken leg and internal injuries.
