Water-Ways Believe: Strike Conditions Slow Freight Flow
Traffic congestion from the yard men’s strike eased along the Mississippi and Warrior rivers as the Government barge line increased movement. Over 40,000 tons of freight are moved weekly with 19 barges of 2000-ton capacity and 16 of 600-ton active. Floating docks are being built to speed loading and unloading, with an $800,000 dock under construction at Dubuque and plans for a Kant Street facility in St. Louis. Freight can be handled at about 80 cents per ton, roughly half the previous cost, once docks be ready.

England Opens Probe Into Alleged Lighting Monopolies
London reports England has begun an inquiry into war era growth of trusts in electric light, lamp bulb, and related sectors.
