Ohio Troops Called After Disturbing Mexican Border Reports
Washington June 21 Major General Funston seeks 65 000 national guard to mobilize for border duty after disturbing reports on Mexican forces north of the border. The US replies to Carranza rejects demands for withdrawal and warns of grave consequences for any attack. Secretary Lansing informed Mexican ambassador Arredondo. Ohio, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, and Pennsylvania guards are considered for early mobilization with border action likely to begin if hostilities occur. The Navy may blockade Mexican ports, and Senator Tillman is asked to back a navy expansion to 74 700 enlistments. An American soldier was seized at Casas Grandes and held briefly before being released after a demand from General Pershing.
