Horses Sold for European War Use in Montana
Dillon, June 16. Horses from Montana drew strong bids from European agents at a sale opening today. Prices reached 175 to 200 per head for the choicest animals as thousands are offered this and tomorrow. French buyers, led by Count Rene de Montion, head a Montana and nearby state committee gathering horses for front line needs. The sales benefit Montana by about 2 million dollars as horses are pressed for war use and as dining meat for troops, with wounded steeds killed and later used in camp kitchens.
