Washington June 1 The Navy says several Seattle ferries carrying workers to salmon canneries were halted by ice. One steamer the Taco has sunk and the fleet likely includes five ships with a few hundred men aboard, all workers bound for canneries.
The German thrust between Montdidier and Noyon is viewed in Washington as a local operation on a large scale with limited aims. It seeks to consolidate Picardy and Aisne fronts and straighten the line for later massed attacks toward the channel ports.
