Trials on the Jena Ship Ended With Mixed Results
Experiments aboard the damaged French battleship Jena tested dogs to gauge shell effects. Dogs survived the blasts but suffered severe nervous shock, with two becoming somber and later ending their lives by leaping into the sea. The study suggested future navy crews might suffer from neuromas, while some animals displayed fear and withdrawal. Treasury profits grew from stamp destruction and unredeemed bonds, with millions in overdue interest and unpaid bonds still on record.
