Decline in Vet College Enrollments Warns of Shortage

A statement by David B. White of Ohio State University highlights a sharp drop in veterinary college enrollments from 3160 to 64 over five years, with 21 schools in 1916 shrinking to 15 and only 163 freshmen. The dean warns that the U S must graduate about 500 veterinarians annually to meet demand, as urban motorization does not eliminate the need for animal care, and livestock value remains high. He notes the livestock industry is valued around ten billion dollars and stresses the veterinary field’s essential role in preventing disease and maintaining production.
