Death of Mt. Vernon ex mayor Oren Poppleton
Oren Poppleton, prominent Mt. Vernon citizen and former mayor, died at his home after a illness of seven years. Born September 29, 1856, he taught school, led Kenyon academy, ran successful grocer businesses, and served as Knox county representative for Otis & Co. He led Mt. Vernon as mayor in 1902 and was active in Masonic and Knights Templar circles. Funeral set for Wednesday at 10 a.m. from his North Guy Street residence with services by local clergy and Clinton Commandery escort. He is survived by his wife and several nephews and nieces. Burial planned in Cheshire, Delaware county.

Court Notes Preserve injunction against Knox officials
Knox county court enjoined commissioners from awarding a heating plant contract to Snow Heating & Plumbing Co. The action by Joseph H. Meyers claimed irregularities in bidding. The court made the injunction perpetual and awarded the attorneys $210 for bringing the suit. The county will relet the contract after year’s start.
