First week enrollment across Dalton and Sugar Creek Town ship shows gains over last year with Rural Schools 140 students up from 132. Elementary grades 1-5 rise while sophomores and seniors drop slightly. High school totals 706, up from 677 last year, with freshmen increasing indicating future growth.
President Myron Johnson announces chairmen for all PTA committees for the 1949-50 school year. Elected officers include Pres Myron Johnson Vic Pres Wilbur Eckard and others. The first regular meeting of the newly organized PTA is tentatively set for September 22, 1949.
The Friendly Homemakers Club meets September 22 with Garden Club guests. Members will gather at Goudy’s at 11 15 a.m. for a group tour of the Ohio State Experiment Station in Wooster. Bring a lunch. coffee will be provided.
The Board of Education met on Tuesday September 6 with the county health doctor present to discuss scalp ringworm. They approved all current bills, hired Robert Saddler as a one year elementary teacher, Wilma Williams as a one year art teacher, and Marion Tschantz as substitute bus driver. Safety lights were added to all buses, the art program expanded to two full days weekly, Sonnenberg interior painted, bus drivers enrolled in county safety tests, and funds approved for agricultural tool purchases. The exterior of the high school begins waterproofing by Tasco Co of Lima Ohio. Next meeting October 3, 1949.

At the Dalton V F W Post 5534 Ladies Auxiliary meeting plans were set for a Halloween dance and a town hall benefit party on September 20 at 8 p.m. All Dalton women are invited, with reservations by calling Dalton 6391 before September 17. President Jean Kraus announced the 6th District conference will be in Canton on October 16.
Mr and Mrs Dan W Buchwalter return home after a 5000 mile automobile tour spanning Baton Rouge New Mexico and the Grand Canyon. The couple visited several states and noted the varied scenery encountered on their journey.
Miss Marvaline Merillat and Richard Arnold wed at St Genevieve church Fredericksburg with Rev A H Hohman officiating. The ceremony featured organist Ruth Chenevey, a lavish gladiola decor, and a bridal party led by maid of honor Geneva Merillat and best man Francis Merillat. About 100 guests from multiple Ohio towns attended the Nuptial Mass and reception.
The Wayne County Centennial Fair spans Friday September 16 with events from baby beet club show to harness races and an auction sale in the Coliseum, then WLS National Barn Dance in the Grandstand. Saturday September 17 features Navy Flight 200 and Jimmy Lynch Death Dodgers performances, plus community notices of locals entering colleges, returning from work, and travels across Norwalk, Wooster, Cleveland, Massillon, and Akron.
Miss Louise Lawrence daughter of Mr and Mrs Carl Lawrence of Santa Monica and Mr Henry Burrows son of Mrs Jeannette Burrows of Santa Monica were married August 27 at the Little Chapel of the Dawn. Rev Dean Osterberg officiated. The bride wore blue lace over blue taffeta with long sleeves and a lace cap veil carrying American Beauty roses. Attendants were Mrs Lee Davis and Mrs Glen Lawrence. A reception followed at the bride's home and the couple will reside in Santa Barbara after a trip through central California.
Mr and Mrs E Killian southeast of town host the Gamma Nu Sunday school class of First Baptist Massillon for a wiener roast supper at 6 30 Thursday evening followed by a hayride and surprise features Workmen fit the Buchwalter property into a photo studio and convert the Bates office into an apartment A new front is added to the Wrights 5 10 storeroom and Oswalds general store and Slusser food market are repainted
Band members and families gather at Dalton Park picnic on Sunday at 5 30 p m. Bring table service and be on hand for checks. Sec.
Mrs. John Gano thanks friends neighbors and Methodist church Class No 9 for flowers cards and visits after illness or recovery.
