Methodist church women plan Sept 14 meeting

The W S C S of the Methodist church will meet with Mrs. Otto Tschantz Tuesday Sept 14 at 8 p.m. Mrs Ed Hazel devotional leader and Mrs Grace Myers program. The Dalton Community Club will meet in Presbyterian church basement Thursday evening Sept 9 at 6 30.

Wayne County Fair heads to Wooster September with large livestock show

The 99th Wayne County Fair runs September 14 to 18 in Wooster with rain or shine. Secretary Walter J. Buss reports 20 600 dollars in cash premiums across twelve departments and about 1500 Junior Fair entries. Ten harness races offer 9800 dollars in purses. Major attractions include Raum and Cherokee Rodeo and Wild West Show, WLS National Barn Dance with Lula Belle and Scotty, and free school children grandstand and gate admission on select days.

Dalton Garden Club Elects Officers at September Meeting

The Dalton Garden Club, hosted by Mrs. Elmer Wenger, held a September session with a berry themed quiz and songs. Officers elected: president Mrs. Paul Stockham, vice president Mrs. C K Douglas, secretary Mrs. E A Vandersall, treasurer Mrs. Elmer Wenger, librarian Mrs. Miles Tschantz, historian Mrs. Carl Dague. The group will exhibit at the Wayne County Fair.

A special Sugar Creek Grange meeting is set for Friday evening September 10 to prepare the fair exhibit and collect non perishable items. The regular Grange meeting follows Tuesday September 21 at 8 30 pm with the Girls 4H club presenting the program.

Dalton School Enrollment Surges to 531 Students

Dalton schools opened Tuesday with total enrollment 531. High school 190 and grades 341. At Tuesday board meeting Mrs. Leonard Moser of Orrville was elected as elementary grade teacher.

Band Concert by lith Regiment on September 11

The lith Regiment band presents a concert Saturday night at 8 15 featuring a selected program. This is the last concert of the season. Don Hunsberger directs the ensemble.

Joseph Schmidt 63 died Saturday morning at his Green Oak Dalton residence of a heart attack. He lived in Massillon 15 years, moved to Dalton last June. Survived by widow Margaret, two stepsons George Winkler Dalton and Walter Winkler Canton, three sisters Canton, three brothers Canton and Detroit, eight grandchildren. Rainy conditions aided Scott's Store sales of school supplies on Monday and Tuesday. 1949 Drivers and Chauffeurs licenses are now sold at CV Amstutz electric store. 1948 licenses expire September 30. Richard Coffman enrolled in speech and music at Manchester College Indiana. David Hostetler enters freshman Bible studies at Goshen College. Both are Dalton High School graduates.
