The DHS band renews uniforms after adding boys to the marching group. Mrs. Mast, Band Parents president, centers the preview with Janice Hunter and Bob Murtchler observing. A carry-in dinner gave bandparents a first look at the band and the new outfits.
The First National Bank of Orrville Dalton and the First National Bank of Mt Eaton plan a merger. Shareholders meet Sept 16 to approve, with OCC filing approval needed. If completed Mt Eaton becomes a branch of Orrville and two Mt Eaton directors join Orrville board. a new Mt Eaton building is planned.
Mr and Mrs Gene Edwards host an open house at their home on Rd 153 Sunday September 7 from 1 to 4 honoring Mr and Mrs Clyde Edwards of 907 Edgeway SW North Lawrence on their 50th wedding anniversary which falls September 3. They have one son Eugene and several grandchildren.
Dalton residents will pay about one cent more per thousand cubic feet for natural gas starting Sept 1 as part of the Education Tax bill. The Ohio Legislature increased the state excise tax on public utilities from three to four percent, costing the gas company about 2.43 million dollars annually. The rise is passed to customers via the contract's tax cost clause.
Dora Maxhimer of 2283 Alabama SW won the grand prize for a crocheted table cloth and also took the grand and first prizes on an apron at the Ohio State Fair. She earned first prize on a latch rug and fifth prize on pillow cases in related divisions.
The district started today with full sessions in all buildings signaling a complete return to regular instruction. Teachers and staff reported a smooth start as students filled classrooms across campuses.
The Bulldogs begin the 1954 season aiming to avenge last year’s 14-12 defeat by Tuscarawas Valley. The new field shows excellent playing surface as bleachers and stands are being prepared for Friday’s opener. The schedule includes games at Fredericktown, Doylestown, Waynedale, Smithville, Triway, Northwestern, Rittman, and Norwalk. Rev Archie Penner installed as Sippo Brethren in Christ pastor. prior education noted.
