Two Auto Bandits Captured Near Dalton

Mrs. Daisy Vernon a school teacher at Pokeberry helped trap two youths after their car stalled by the school house. The boys Hodgson and Swanwick from Morganza Pa admitted thefts in Pennsylvania and planned a hold up in Dalton. State Patrol notified Pennsylvania authorities.

Three One Act Plays At Dalton High School

The Speech Club of Dalton high school directed by Miss Helen Fosnight will stage Lonely Lady, Mary Comes Home From College, and Joan's Ark on Thursday night November 13 at eight. Admission 15 and 25 cents. Also notes on visitors and local residents including Sgt Robert E Slusser on furlough from Camp Shelby, Clare Tracy from New York visiting family, and Pvt Gale M Wilford who returned from Fort Ontario with discharge.

Evangelist Mrs Irene Ihde to Visit Dalton Church

Mrs Irene Ihde, renowned evangelist and concert artist, will conduct services at the Methodist Church in Dalton from November 21 to December 4. Secured by Rev Brown with support from Dr E H Mohn, Bishops Frances J McConnel and Herbert Welsch praise her work. Ihde, a Northwestern graduate, has taught in American colleges and at Aoyama University in Japan, and travels as a world missionary. Her programs blend Bible fellowship with music from her concert repertoire focused on knowing the living Christ.

Quiet Wedding Unites Alma Freed and Robert Goudy

Miss Alma Freed of Massillon became the bride of Robert Goudy son of Mr and Mrs Dale Goudy of Dalton in a 10:00 a m ceremony at the United Brethren parsonage Barberton. The couple then traveled to Baltimore to attend the Notre Dame Navy game and will reside with the groom's parents.

Shower Honors Evelyn Tschantz Ahead of Marriage

Mrs Veryl Bach Mrs Norman Berg and Mrs Carl Goudy hosted a miscellaneous shower at the Goudy home Monday evening for Miss Evelyn Tschantz whose marriage to Richard Moser is planned. Three tables played yacht with Mrs Glenh Berg winning a prize. A salad course and autumn-themed treats were served. other guests included Norma Jean Wecht Annetta Smith J M McDowell Bill Adams Chas Bach, Harry Blosser, and Mrs Carl Stansberger.

Local Notes Include Fire in East Greenville and Hobby Show Visit

Harmon Wertz of Farrell Pa was home over the weekend. The East Greenville fire department fought a Thursday evening blaze at the Evans home caused by a defective chimney with slight damage. Mr and Mrs Dot Houghton of Don's Rainbow Gardens travel to Chicago for the Annual Hobby Show at Stevens Hotel where their button collection and mounting frames are on display.

The Arnold String Ensemble and the Methodist Church Choir will give a concert at Dalton Methodist Church Sunday evening November 16 at 8 00. Red Cross Roll Call Urges Dalton and Sugar Creek Support

Paul A. Stockham announces a Red Cross Roll Call in Dalton and Sugar Creek township with the slogan Every Adult in Wayne County a Red Cross member. Quotas are doubled nationwide and the drive runs for one week starting Armistice Day with canvassers visiting homes.

Community Club to Meet at U P Church Basement

The Community Club will meet in the U P church basement on Thursday night November 13 at 6 30. A church ladies group will serve a menu including roast pork buttered lima beans mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes baked apples celery pickles pumpkin pie whipped cream bread and coffee.

Teachers Banquet Honors Local Educators at High School

The annual banquet for teachers Friday evening at the high school featured Home Economics students serving under Miss Catherine Allison. Clinton G. Springer served as toastmaster. Speakers included Miss Helen Fosnight and Pauline Gerber. The program showcased the school orchestra, group singing, a male quartet with Victor Gerber, George Amstutz, O. G. Gerber and Ernest Dodez, and a piano solo by Mrs. Glen Berg. Board of education members and bus drivers attended as guests.

Mrs Solomon Amstutz Dies at 71 in 1941

Mrs Solomon Amstutz died at her home near Martins church on November 10 1941 from a stroke at age 71. She was born Barbara Hofstetter on a farm once owned by Amos Tschantz near Dalton and married Solomon Amstutz in 1896. Survivors include husband a son Allen of Dalton two daughters Celesta Eberly and Edna Amstutz a stepdaughter couple siblings and one grandchild. Funeral services were held at the Martin Mennonite church with burial in the church cemetery.

Dalton Garden Club Meeting Highlights and Topics

The Dalton Garden Club met Thursday evening at Mrs. E. L. Slusser's home with twenty nine members and one guest present. Members shared why they belong to the club, the Winter Bouquets paper by Mrs. Carroll Scott, a gourds basket by Mrs. Carl Lawrence, a timely topic by Mrs. Kile Lintern, and a specimen display featuring mums and Thanksgiving arrangements by the committee of Mrs. David McCullough, Mrs. Vic Houghton, and Mrs. F. O. Marty.

Mothers Club Meeting at Mrs Fetter’s Home Friday

The band Mothers Club will meet at the home of Mrs N Jd Fetter Friday evening Nov 14 at 7 30 o clock. Transportation will be provided for those without a way by notifying the hostess. Also promoting hearty breakfasts and old fashioned recipes with onion dumplings pork roast parker house rolls and other prize winners from The Housewife's Food Almanack in The American Weekly magazine distributed with the Chicago Herald American ad.

The Dalton high school thermometer recorded a high of 60 on Thursday afternoon and a low of 29 on Monday and Wednesday mornings for the week of November 5 to 12 at 8 00 a m Rain measured at 5 inches for the period.
