Dalton Village and Sugar Creek Election Ballot List 1949

Voters will choose for Mayor and multiple offices in Dalton and Sugar Creek Township on November 8 1949. Names listed include Vern F Hoobler Clarence L Kraus for Mayor and nine council candidates among others for clerk treasurer and boards with various vote counts. A special issue seeks renewal of a two mill operating expenses levy.

Dalton Town Hall Receives New Overhead Gas Heater

A new overhead type gas heater was installed in Dalton town hall last week by Dalton Hardware to replace coal stoves and reduce fire risk. The south wall was waterproofed by Walter Ott and his crew. Interior work will receive two coats of paint in green and ivory soon.

VFW Meeting Moved To Monday November 7 In Dalton

Dalton Post 5534 Veterans of Foreign Wars schedules a Monday gathering at 8 00 p m to prepare for the November 8 election. Members will join a team after a brief business session and a roast turkey lunch. Lawrence Flanagan toasted 2 turkeys to the post. The Ohio VFW Mid Winter Conference will be November 5 6 in Canton with sessions at St Francis Hotel and Floyd Hughes post. Registration begins 8 30 a m each day with meetings at 9 30 1 30 and 12 noon closing Sunday.

Marriage of Ruth Crottinger and Frank Phillips Jr.

At St Agnes parsonage Orrville on October 22 Rev Charles A Hoot performed the ceremony for Miss Ruth Crottinger daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert Crottinger East Greenville and Frank Phillips Jr son of Mr and Mrs Frank Phillips Sr Dalton The reception followed at the bride and groom parents homes with about 150 guests The couple will reside in Leitner Apartments Dalton.

Bethany Circle Hears Devotions and Masquerade Prizes

Mrs Jerry Shisler hosted 32 Bethany Circle members at her home on Thursday. President Mrs Clyde Wenger led the meeting with devotions by Mrs D R McAfee, piano solo by Elinor Shisler, piano duet by Mrs Wi Berg and Mrs C R Goudy, and hymn sung by Mrs Laura Amstutz and Mrs McAfee. Prizes for best masquerade costumes went to Mrs Lee Douglas and Mrs Ray Camp. Contests were led by Mrs Earl Locke and Mrs Amstutz with prizes to Mrs Douglas and Mrs Amstutz. Mrs Douglas read a humorous piece on When Father Took Over. During social hour, cookies, ice cream, Halloween candy, coffee and sweet cider were served by Mrs Dennis Arnold and Mrs Alma Williams. Mr and Mrs Earl Locke celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary at home Sunday. They hosted guests: Mr and Mrs Paul Johnson Sr and Maurice Johnson, wife and daughter Betty of West Salem. Mr and Mrs Paul Johnson Jr, Roland Johnson, wife and daughter Betty. and Mrs H Moore of Ashland.

Fire damages Leitner Electric shop and equipment

A fire of undetermined origin damaged the Leitner Electric shop and building Friday night. The blaze was controlled quickly by the local fire department. Losses are covered by insurance.

First Fall Frost Hits Dalton Area

The first killing frost of the fall occurred last Thursday morning across the Dalton region. Local items include Postbader LB Paperman and wife visiting Chicago, vandals damaging several grave stones in Dalton cemetery, and Mrs Ira Wertz Jr recovering from an appendectomy at Massillon city hospital. A vote seeks renewal of the two mill levy for Dalton Local School District operating expenses. Other notes mention Ivan Amstutz purchasing Jerseys, a motor trip to Akron and Alamogordo, New Mexico, and church events with a religious film “Where We Walk.” Anna Mae Poorman of Lackland Air Base Texas visits Dalton on furlough. Sgt Poorman is a Dalton High School graduate with wartime service in Berlin and Weisbaden.

Passes and turns cited in local mayor court cases

Ernest Fiala of Canton was fined 1000 dollars and costs for passing a school bus in Mayor Kranscourt's court. Allen Zuercher of Apple Creek was fined 1000 dollars and costs for making an illegal left turn at Waterworks road, causing an accident last Wednesday. State Highway Patrol arrest and Dalton mayor’s court proceedings are noted.
