Washington officials said no evidence the postal department was involved in irregularities tied to a postcard ballot taken last summer. Investigators found about 30 cards altered by erasure but could not prove who did it, and the case is considered closed.
The Honor Banquet for 225 attendees featured a high school auditorium setting with spring daffodil décor and mint cups. Mayor Kraus welcomed guests, Coach John Gonter spoke on the Dalton Bull Dogs' football and basketball work, and Fritz Heisler of the Cleveland Browns gave an athletic address with a film segment.

The fourth six weeks honor roll lists students by grade with all entries across grades I through XII. Names include Russell Gregory, Larry Hofstetter, Catherine Douglas, Dawn Everitt, Betty Falk, Barbara Moser, Eunice Steiner, Margaret Moser, Carol Mon barren, Marjorie Hasseman, Marilyn Graber, Jerry Berg in grade I and James Kornhats, Jane Falk, Karen Peters, Brenda Douglas in grade IV, plus LaVonne Eschliman, Esther Good, Laurel Martin in grade V and others across VI Vish IX XI XII.
The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW elected officers for the coming year led by President Mrs Jean Kraus and vice presidents Mrs Anna Weikert and Mrs Geneva Gardner. Treas urer is Mrs Esther Dearolf and chaplain Mrs Alice Wright with other posts filled. Installation set for April 5.
Sugar Creek Grange hosts a box social on Tuesday March 22 at 8 pm at the grange hall west of Alton. Games and cachre to be played. Each lady loses a box lunch of 50c value. Family entertainment including children. Public welcome.
County Auditor Earl Lautenschlager announces personal tax listing help at Dalton town hall on Friday March 18 and Friday April 1. The sessions are intended to assist residents in filing personal tax listings.
Dalton Rotary Club sponsors annual Easter seal sale to fund help and education for crippled children. Donations to club treasurer Louis E. Tschantz. Mr and Mrs Don Stahl of Zanesville were weekend guests of the Lee Stahls.
A farewell gathering at Merl and Lee Douglas home bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. David E. Smith who depart March 7 for Jacksonville Florida where he will serve in the Naval Air Corps until next summer. Mrs. Smith spent two months with her parents while he served in a Mediterranean cruise. Guests included the Schultz, Douglas, and Moser families.
Born at Beeson hospital Wooster on March 8 a daughter to Mr and Mrs Cullen Mc Farren of RD 1. Also announced is the birth of a son Denton Lewis to Mr and Mrs D A Miller at French Camp California on March 6.
I sincerely thank my many friends for their letters, cards, flowers, and visits during my hospital stay and after returning home. The memory of these kind acts will remain a cherished thought.
Amiel D. Cornell 70 formerly of Kidron died March 11 1949 at his San Diego California home. Survived by wife Ida two daughters Estella Clementz Spokane and Edna Allensworth Massillon three sons Ralph L Massillon George R Genoa and Charles V Spokane nine grandchildren and a sister Mary Herwick Navarre. Body to Massillon for services March 19 at Gordon Shaidnagle Hollinger Funeral Home Canton officiating burial Massillon cemetery. Calling hours Friday 7 to 9 PM.
Private funeral services were held for Kathy Ann Santmyer at the family home after her death Wednesday at Massillon City Hospital. Survived by her parents, maternal grandmother Mrs. Karl Shocksnider, and paternal great grandmother Mrs. Lydia Chapman. Rev. L E Flauhaus officiated. burial in Dalton cemetery. Monbarren Funeral Home in charge.
Funeral services for Albert and Naomi Monbarren of Massillon were held Saturday from the Monbarren Funeral Home with burial at Rose Hill Memorial Park. Survivors include three sons Clifford Gordon and James in California a brother Charles Monbarren of Massillon Zeal Monbarren of Westerville a sister Mrs Noah Bixler of Orrville and former Dalton residents Charles Zeal and Mrs Leah Bixler. Messages of thanks from families express gratitude for cards flowers and help during their losses.
