Edna Schultz Remembered as Dalton Church Leader and Mother

Edna Schultz wife of Paul Schultz prominent in Dalton church and civic life was born on a farm southeast of town. She attended Pleasant Valley School and Dalton High School then Commercial Institute of Massillon and worked at Goodyear and Ohio Water Service before marriage on June 10 1933. The Schultzes ran Lamplite Grill from 1947 to 1952 and have four children and one grandson. She has led the Methodist Women’s Society and Girl Scouts and chaired the local cancer drive while serving in church choirs and other community roles.

Ladies Auxiliary To VFW Mark 10th Anniversary Dinner

The Dalton VFW Post 5534 Ladies Auxiliary celebrated its 10th anniversary with a dinner at the Pines in Canton. Dept. President Gertrude Lulginbuhl and other officials attended. members received 10 and 5 year pins, past presidents were honored, and Sirsa Yeaman shared the auxiliary history.

Celia Denbrook Enrolls at Columbus Business University

Miss Celia Denbrook daughter of Mr and Mrs Russell Denbrook left Sunday for Columbus to enroll at Columbus Business University aiming to become an executive secretary. A 1957 Dalton High School graduate she was active in chorus band and orchestra and served as music reporter for the Barker and business manager for the Luanna.

41st Annual Street Fair Is July 17 Dalton Chamber of Commerce event

The 41st annual street fair sponsored by the Dalton Chamber of Commerce will be held Wednesday July 17. Highlights include 4H Club food stand pony rides a blanket stand country store doll stand homemade candy baked goods plant stand ferris wheel merry go round kiddie train a Civil Defense display and prize drawings including an Admiral color television and a 1957 Chevrolet 210 two door from the Dalton V F W. Music features the Dalton All Girl Band and the 11th Regiment Band with publicity chairman Roy Saurer.

John Hammond 60 formerly of Brewster died Tuesday in Ft. Wayne Indiana. Funeral Friday at 2 p.m. at the Monbaren residence Dalton with Rev Wilbur Geist officiating. Burial in Dalton Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday at Monbaren residence.

Homemakers Club to Meet at VFW Hall Thursday

The Friendly Neighbors Homemakers Club will meet Thursday afternoon at the V F W home. Devotional leader is Mrs Cloyce Goudy. A panel discussion asks if today bride is better prepared for homemaking than yesterday's. Panel moderator is Mrs Cle Tus Gerber with several panelists. Firemen's Wives Plan Strawberry Festival in Dalton

The Dalton Volunteer Fire Dept Ladies Auxiliary will host a strawberry festival June 27 from 5 to 11 p.m. at the Fire Station with co chairs Mrs Paul Schultz and Mrs Dale E Scott. Menu includes homemade chicken soup, sandwiches, ice cream, strawberries, cake, coffee and sodas. Music, kiddie rides on the Town Hall lawn, and an apron stand near the lunch counter are planned.

Methodist Church Installs Officials in Sunday Service

The Dalton Methodist Church installed trustees and officials during morning worship led by Rev. Paul R. Price. Names include Howard Boals Russell Johnson Ralph Kurzen Donald Dearolf and many others with lay leaders, treasurer Myron Resor and secretary roles noted. A special conference Sunday observance is planned for June 23 with no sermon and Sunday School at 9 30.

Soap Box Derby Day in Wayne-Holmes Sunday

The Wayne-Holmes Soap Box Derby will be held Sunday June 23 on County Road 44 near Apple Creek State Hospital. About 100 boys are expected to race with prizes including T-shirts helmets and various awards. The champion and runner up earn bicycles and trophies and the winner advances to the All-American Derby in Akron August 18. Special awards honor best constructed best upholstered cars sportsmanship and fastest time. Corsica in Morrow County Ohio inspired President Warren G Harding.

A Dalton native born in Dalton attended Dalton Schools and enjoyed music and crossword puzzles. The anonymous young helper worked in an onion swamp at Orrville to earn spending money through selling homemade horseradish.
