Lumberman's Helper at 13 Becomes Partner in Family Yard

Bill Adams born April 1916 in Massillon began at his father Ira Adams Lumber Co. at age 13. After WWII service, he partnered with his father, is a ROTARY Club founder, Cedar Lodge member, and church board member. He married Della Lehman in 1937. they have three children.

Dalton Memorial Day Parade Highlights Local Units

Sunshine and cooperation from local groups energized the Memorial Day events in Dalton. The Dalton VFW Color Guard and Firing Squad led the parade from the VFW Post Home, with participants including the Ladies Auxiliary, Dalton All Girl Marching Band, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and various local groups. The day featured cemetery processions, musical selections by the ith Regiment Band, Gettysburg Address by Ronnie Gardner, and a firing squad salute to the dead.

Dalton High School hosts tryouts for the All Girl Band majorettes and mascots on Thursday June 6 at 7 30 p m Eastern Time. Local students are invited to audition seeking spots in the marching units.

Silver Hill School Reunion Draws About 80 Attendees

The Silver Hill School reunion on Saturday June 1 at the school drew about 80 people for a carry in picnic and reunion of friends. Martin Moser of Orrville led a brief musical program. Officers elected were President Wayne Kratzer Vice President Clarence Gerber Secretary Treasurer Virginia Kratzer and Recording Secretary Twila Amstutz. Attendees came from Wadsworth Wooster Canton Massillon Brewster Uniontown Dalton Kidron and Detroit Michigan.

Methodist Women Plan Breakfast at Dalton Church

The Women's Society of Christian Service at Dalton Methodist Church will host a breakfast on Tuesday June 11 at 8 00 am DST at Dalton Park. A worship service and installation of officers follow. Hostesses include Mrs Carroll Scott Mrs Robert Mumaw Mrs James Mumaw and Mrs David McCullough. Devotions by Mrs Edna Camp with Mrs Dale Steiner as program chairman. If rain, breakfast moves to the church dining room.

Cub Scouts Welcome Three New Members Into Pack

Dalton Cub Scout Pack 22 welcomed Joe Wilson David Amstutz and Ronald Murbach at the May 29 meeting at the Presbyterian Church Forty eight Cubs attended. The monthly theme Cub Scout Firemen featured exhibits from dens one and five. Cub Master John Murbach awarded the bear to Leonard Bodager and a gold arrow to Paul Amstutz. Den one won the attendance trophy led by den mother Mrs Marvin Oswald. A wiener roast at the park followed the meeting. The next pack meeting is a fishing derby at Badoja Farms on June 21.

Services Held Wednesday For Mrs Lotz Father Samuel Plympton

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 pm at Reed Funeral Home in Canton for Samuel Guy Plympton 83 father of Mrs Charles Lotz of Dalton He died Sunday at his Canton home after a cerebral hemorrhage Survivors include his widow Laura C Plympton two sons Milton Glenn of Miami Florida and Paul LeRoy of Massillon a sister Almeda Connard of Hagerstown Ohio eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery Canton

Intermediate Girl Scouts Observe Troop Birthday

Dalton Intermediate Girl Scouts and mothers marked the troop birthday with a May 27 picnic at the Methodist Church basement. Twenty five girls received year pins and four earned perfect attendance awards since the 1956 March 5 founding.

Rotarians Tour Yost Candy Co in Dalton Visit

Dalton Rotary Club members toured the Yost Candy Co plant after a Monday dinner meeting led by plant manager John Roll. The 24-employee operation produces Kid Dipops at 210 per minute using large corn syrup kettles and automatic lollipop shaping and wrapping lines.

Dalton Area Considered for Future College Site

State Representative Ralph E Fisher Wooster arranges a meeting with Attorney Don E Flath Dr Robert Baer Glen Berg and Mayor G G Grim to discuss locating a state university or junior college nearby. Local Rotarians and state legislators worked on this community project and have conducted polls and censuses to locate a college.

Summer Work Outlined At Board Meeting

The Dalton Board of Education outlined summer projects including painting twelve classrooms outside painting cement work and heating system repairs. They extended a two year contract to Edith Meier and arranged annual heating checks with Johnson Service Co. They agreed to underwrite half the cost of shuffleboard rights at Kidron School and discussed a pupil insurance program. Seats in the bus garage will be given away on June 10.

Canal Fulton Theatre Fashion Show Opens Season

A pre season fashion show on Sunday June 9 ushers in the Canal Fulton Summer Theatre season with Claire Luce starring in Anniversary Waltz performances June 11 16. Charlotte s of Akron and Canton present summer and early fall designs amid a private showing led by co producers David Fulford Elizabeth Bliler and William Dempsey. The 3 pm event includes a tea in the Green Room with admission by reservation only.
