Danforth Award Recipients at Dalton High School

Mollie Gerber and Fred Myers earned the Danforth Award at a Dalton assembly last week. Fred received multiple honors including Teen-Ager of the Month, various scholarship tests, FFA and livestock judging accolades, varsity letters, and other recognitions. Mollie garnered National Honor Society certificate, Bookkeeping first place, and band and cheer awards. A rainstorm incident saw five boys ushered to action, rolling car windows and earning community recognition.

Wertz Receives VFW Community Service Award

Ira B. Wertz Jr was surprised on Memorial Day as he received the VFW annual award for the citizen doing the most for the community over the past year. The honor, presented by the VFW during Memorial Day services, previously went to Henry Thomas posthumously, with Dalton Chambers of Commerce assisting the selection.

Methodist Summer Services and Church Membership News

The Dalton community summer services feature Rev. Robert Richardson preaching at 8:30 and 10:30 a m this Sunday at the Presbyterian and Methodist churches respectively. Last Sunday baptisms at Dalton United Methodist welcomed Mrs. Bruce Adams and daughter Shelley Deane and Dianne Weisgarber. new members also joined. Members completing Youth Membership Training include Roger Buchwalter Philip Douglas Blane Sommer Mark Streb Kim Torgler Mark Tyrrell and Dianne Weisgarber with Mrs. Bruce Adams joining. Dr and Mrs Robert Swoger and children Ellen William Robert and Robert Mark were received by transfer from Canal Fulton Ohio. An installation service for the Women s Society of Christian Service was led by Mrs Richardson with a fan symbol presented. Donna McFarren Receives BA From Macalester College

Donna Jean McFarren daughter of Mr and Mrs Sterling McFarren of Dalton Route 1 earned a Bachelor of Arts degree May 24 at Macalester College Saint Paul Minnesota. She majored in political science and mathematics and studied computer programming during an interim term. She will work as a programmer at Univac in Massachusetts. Parents attended the graduation and Donna is a 1965 Dalton High School graduate.

McCullough rites held Friday

Robert Scott McCullough seven year old son of Robert W. and Mary L. McCullough of East Main Street Dalton died Wednesday morning at Children’s Hospital Akron after a two week illness. Surviving include his parents a brother Mark paternal grandmother Mrs Treva McCullough of Dalton maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Raymond Myers of Massillon and great grandmother Mrs Lucy Myers of Massillon. Services were held Friday at 2 30 p m at Monbarren Funeral Home Rev Ralph Fogal officiating donations may be made in Robert Scott’s name to the Children’s Cancer Fund at Children’s Hospital Akron Ohio.

Dalton council faces pay row over sewer and water head

Miss Louise Speck to attend German Vocal Institute in Germany

Miss Louise Speck daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Speck of 147 North Mill Street Dalton will leave June 19 for a nine week Summer Vocal Institute in Freiburg Germany. The program covers six weeks of German opera Lieder diction and voice study under German professors and performers and three weeks of sightseeing and musical excursions. Miss Speck is a graduate student at Ohio State University pursuing her MA.

A special Booster Club meeting is set for Thursday at 8 30 at the high school. Members are urged to attend as discussions may cover upcoming events and fundraising plans.
