Three wagon loads of powder exploded at Wilmington in 1854. On June 1 Mary Dyer a Quaker was hanged in Boston in 1660. June 2 marks the Leisler insurrection in New York. The transit of Venus was observed with important results in 1769.
Forty graduates led the 1940s style ceremony with twenty five girls and fifteen boys in white, as Rev A R Keiser gave the invocation and Dean Frederick Rheem of Baldwin Wallace College delivered the main address on ethical character. Diplomas were handed by J N Muser with remarks by Supt Ralph Hathaway. awards went to students including Elaine Baldwin and Margaret Kornhaus who also led Wayne County quiz book results.
Mr and Mrs Amos Tschantz visited their son Stanley I Tschantz at Ohio State University Columbus over Sunday and joined a college banquet. Among ten Ohio State juniors in the College of Agriculture with all A B or better grades this year Mr Tschantz ranks fourth. OSU will graduate about 1600 this year.
A partial roll of former residents and visitors for Memorial Day in Dalton includes names from Akron Canton Wooster Massilon Orrville Brewster Toledo Ashland Chicago Cuyahoga Falls Milwaukee Cincinnati New Brighton Reed Urban Granville Granville Milton Hildebrand and others with spouses and families. The notice groups attendees by their origin cities and towns.
The first Homan reunion gathered at the M E church basement on Memorial Day with attendees including Mrs Della Homan Moseley of Bartlesville Oklahoma along with Leslie Homan and his family from Norwalk. Also present were Mrs Mary Homan and daughters Marie and Thelma, Clarence Myers and family, U S Bair, Ray Myers, David Anklesby Massillon, George Gottwall and spouse, Wm Radley and wife, Virginia and Gene Homan, R J Stuckey and wife of Orrville, Mrs Cora McDowell Akron Oliver Homan and wife and Miss Dorothy Myers Dalton.

Memorial Day observances in Dalton featured a solemn tribute to soldiers of the Mexican, Civil, Spanish American and World Wars. The event included a new speaker’s stand, a colorful parade led by Chico the Arabian pony with Dr. Lee L DeArment, a band, flag bearers, decorated graves, and an amplified program with patriotic music and readings. Rev J C Searle of Shelby spoke as Hon H H Cully introduced the day’s program.

Mrs Geo A Berg received notice of the marriage of her sister Miss Emily Holley of Powhatan Point to Mr Thomas Vasilaros of Greensburg Pa. The ceremony occurred in Pittsburg on May 2. Miss Holley had resided in Dalton for several years.
