Lightning Strikes Straw Stack At Ida Douglas Farm
A lightning bolt struck a large straw stack in front of a barn on Mrs Ida Douglas’s farm north of town during a heavy storm. Firefighters battled the blaze for over ten hours, tearing the stack apart to reach the source. Water was hauled from a hydrant on N Church street Dalton over a mile away. Orrville and Smithville sent pumper and a 1000 gallon tank to assist.
