Mrs Anna Spade Devery Dies After Illness

Mrs Anna Spade Devery aged 58 of ee Valley died Thursday morning in Massillon City Hospital after two years of illness. Survived by husband James Devery one sister Mrs A Freenwalt of Wooster and one brother John Spade of Rochester Indiana. Funeral services were held Saturday from the Dalton home with interment in Wooster cemetery.

Hopes for Fifty Years as Bandman Prof Puegner Nears 50 Years

Prof Oscar Puegner, director of the Dalton Massillon Agathon and New Philadelphia Saxophone bands, nears half a century in music. He studied in 1878 at Hainichen, Saxony, arrived in the U S in 1884, organized Massillon Harmonia, led the G A R band of Canton, and now leads three bands. Next Thursday he and his bands will provide music for the band carnival in town.

Swiss Picnic at Brookfield Lake August 7

The Home Coming and Swiss Picnic will be held at Brookfield Lake 224 miles northwest of Massillon on Sunday August 7. The Mt Hope band and Swiss Singers of Massillon will provide music and entertainment while willing waiters serve seasonal delicacies. Plenty of Sweitzer cheese will be on hand.

The children s day program at Martin church Sunday afternoon was well attended. Mr and Mrs Ezra Brubaker of Pokeberry spent Sunday in the E M Shoup home. Miss Mable Ressler who had her tonsils removed last week is improving slowly. Rev A C Good began a series of meetings Sunday evening with good attendance. Mrs Sam Wenger who had been in Massillon hospital the past two weeks was brought home Friday.

Barn Destroyed By Fire On Lehman Farm

Fire of unknown origin destroyed the Jacob J. Lehman farm bank barn north of Kidron on Tuesday evening. Merl Lehman noticed smoke while finishing milk chores. cows were saved, but the hay, wheat, baled straw, and some tools were lost. Loss about 5000 dollars, partially insured with Sonnenberg Co. Kidron and Orrville fire departments saved the dwelling and some buildings.

July harvests describe hay mostly complete with 72 loads by John Ramseir near Smithville and six loads lost to rain. Wheat is lighter than usual and late. oats promise a heavy yield. early potatoes show bumper prospects. Several local family events and gatherings are noted, plus reunions on Aug 18 and Sept 5.

Pokeberry Mumaw Dies After Illness At 21

Pokeberry Russel Mumaw 21 of Scotdale Penna son of Levi Mumaw formerly of this community died after illness. Funeral held last Monday from the Martin church. Miss Mable Bossier had her tonsils removed last Friday and is at her parents home. Evangelistic meetings led by Rev Good of Sterling Ill are held at Pleasant View church this week. Lydia Messenger and daughter Orpha of Penna were guests of Ezra Brubaker Sunday. Born to Mr and Mrs Ray Shisler last week a son.
