Dalton high girls defeated Fredericksburg 29 to 23 to claim Wayne County Class B basketball title. Crosby led Fredericksburg and Tracy led Dalton with 17 points each. Semi finals saw Fredericksburg boys beat Sterling 20 to 12 and Dalton beat Mt. Eaton 23 to 17. Shreve edged Dalton 27 to 21 in the boys semifinal.

Dorothy Tyrrell Wins County Basketball Foul Shooting Contest
Dorothy Tyrrell of this place won the girls division in the County Basket Ball tournament foul shooting contest held in Wooster last Saturday. Tyrrell and Gladys Schmit of Chester tied on 17 of 20 attempts with Tyrrell taking the prize by sinking seven of ten in the tiebreaker. A miniature gold basketball was awarded.

Fire destroys Griffith hotel pool hall and dance hall
Marshallville woke to a noon blaze that razed the Griffith hotel pool room and dance hall causing a loss of 12090 dollars. Firemen answered alarms as a separate Friday morning incident at the Fred Fahrney farm saw a truck motor fire sparked by warming up the engine but extinguished with minimal damage.

Mild weather Sunday gave way to heavy rains Monday night causing Sugar Creek bottoms to flood. The creek overflowed roads at Fischer's on the Lincoln Highway Sonnenberg store Benville and Snively.
