The note also mentions diverse topics from Chicago theater to range finders and ancient scientific tools, plus a tragic eagle tales from the Northern Carpathians.
Mrs Mary Goodnight of Goodnight Texas holds the distinction of owning a herd of buffaloes. About half are pure bred cataloes, a cross between a buffalo and Galloway cow. Cataloes share the buffalo’s hump and shaggy hair, but vary in color, with horns notably longer than the pure breds.

The deaths of Mr. and Mrs. John Hoefer from starvation were reported to police by Associated Charities agent Frellson. The Hoefers sold furniture to buy food and fuel for themselves and two children. They starved to save the children, died in hospital, one Monday and the other Tuesday, while the children were ill. Mrs Hoefer had a wealthy sister in Philadelphia whom she asked to care for the youngsters.
A lone highwayman robbed the FOB Vennuin bank in Pisher Champaign County on Wednesday, taking 4620 dollars after forcing cashier Arthur Vennam to hand over the funds. He hid aboard a freight train but was seized in the engine car by armed citizens as the caboose passed the depot. Eleven hundred dollars of the loot was recovered. Separately, in Minneapolis a jury convicted Frank Hamilton of manslaughter in the death of Leonard Ro Dasnanaus.
The jury found the defendant guilty and recommended mercy. He was ordered jailed to await sentence. Attorneys moved for a new trial, but no date for a hearing was set. The sentence range is five to twenty years at hard labor.
A head on collision between the Nellie Bly express from New York to Atlantic City and local train No 330 near Bordentown N J results in at least ten deaths and more than 25 injuries. Most victims are Italian workers, with several railroad staff among the dead and wounded. The wreck, described as horri fying, involved engines and cars destroyed by fire and the canal beside the track becoming a scene for bodies and survivors to escape.
Col Michael C Murphy is named commissioner and chief of police, replacing Devery. Sexton moves to health head, with several promotions and transfers across precincts. Murphy vows to enforce laws impartially, while Devery protests the legality of the removal.

Manila reports a skirmish near Santa Cruz in Cavite where several insurgents were killed and ten rifles captured. In Pampanga provinces 25.00 worth of goods were sold to natives. Washington confirms March 4 inaugural parade uniforms allowed, with national transport garb. Five killed by a Pittsburg freight train injures a crowd of Italian workers.
From London Feb 25 Lord Kitchener reports in a war office dispatch that Boer forces under De Wet are retreating in scattered units of about 5000 as French advance from Piet Retief captures Amsterdium and Piet Retief. Heavy rains hamper progress and Boer losses include 292 killed or wounded and 183 surrendered. British casualties total 5 officers 148 men. De Wet reportedly fled toward Cape Town after engagements near Danselfontein and Zeernst claims Delarey captured.
A large attendance gathered Sunday in Tomda ward under Evangelical church auspices for an open air sermon and political outreach. In Pasay, a further extant sermon was held as part of efforts to expand outreach. A Methodist preacher arrested at Cavite a month ago has not been tried and is expected to be vindicated. Methodists deny he is an insurgent.
