Desperate Train Robbers Leave One Dead on Southern Pacific
Five masked men boarded train No. 17 near Pixley California on a Friday eve and robbed the express car. Two passengers were shot while fleeing to the front. J. S. Desperate Leap for Liberty Ends in Capture
Dernog Ohio Feb 25 One of Northwestern Ohio’s notorious horse thieves was seized after a daring escape from Mayor Stolkamp. He vaulted through a Walsh’s brick window to flee, but landed on the pavement and was recaptured. He refused to reveal his name. A three story and basement brick building at 63 and 65 Canal Street burned down causing about 900,000 in damage. Losses include 15,000 for B Richards insured, 12,000 for Godell Waters wood-working machinery, 95,008 for Bird & Co window curtains, and substantial sums for H S Holden gas fixtures. The adjacent two story frame building also suffered, with Holden stock loss pegged at 16,000 and building at 53,000, all fully insured.
