The column recalls spelling quirks for Puerto Rico and a local run of subscriptions with reduced rates. It mentions Mrs. Wilson returning to work smoothing operations and a playful reference to Jack Paar and NBC. Also notes bake sale aid for the girl scouts and upcoming babysitting calls.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday February 23 at Seobold Funeral Home Bolivar for Ida Gardner Knecht 49 who died Saturday at Union Hospital Dover. Born Dalton December 25 1910 she is survived by husband Robert three sons James William John all in Dover or at home and three daughters Betty Pope Joanne Bonnie two brothers Clarence Homer and her parents. Burial followed in Bolivar cemetery.
The council met February 1 in Williams Hall with twelve members present. Mary Ann Brillhart, a Smithville High School student, won the Minnie Price scholarship. Plans for a Flower Show Tour on March 9 were announced, with pickups at 8 30 a m and return by 4 p m. Reservations close February 26. A picnic committee was formed for March 24. Achievement Day is set for April 27 in Orrville.
Mrs L M Marker who was bedfast for about 10 days is reported as much improved.
Crown Cleaners owner Harvey Cooper announces a Dalton pickup station opening Monday February 29. The Wooster outfit operates main plant in Wooster with a Dalton site serving weekdays 7 am to 6 pm and Friday to 9 pm. Crown markets Martinizing dry cleaning claims including odorless garments, faster drying, moth proofing, stain pre treatment and germicidal solvent with longer pressed garments.
Beverly Ann Do mer and Ray Wilhelm exchanged vows February 11 in a double ring ceremony in Chicago. Beverly, a Washington High School graduate class of 1954, worked at First National Bank of Dalton. Ray, class of 1951, works for Ray Molder Trucking Corp. They will reside at 3902 Lincoln Way East until June 1.
The All Sports and All Girl Band banquet is set for Saturday April 2 at the American Legion Hall in Massillon. Principal Glen Berg Mrs Roy Hackett and Vaughn Kurken lead the program with David Rossiter handling tickets. Robert Slusser is publicity chair. George Vierbome Zanesville athletic director and former Dalton coach will speak. Public invited. Tickets 2.50.
Two calls by the Dalton Volunteer Firemen with no damage reported. A faulty fireplace at the Scott property on North Mill Street extended smoke before being controlled. A smoke injector was used Tuesday at the Jesse Ballis home on West Main Street.
The Faithful Friends class of West Lebanon Methodist church met at Mary Lax's home. President Janet Lax led, secretary Betty Reed read minutes, and Mabel Frantz gave the treasurer's report. Members answered roll calls with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln facts. bake sale planned for March 5 at IGA West Lebanon. Barbara Moyer to host next meeting at the church.
The Cub Scouts host a Blue and Gold Banquet on February 29 at 6 00 p m in the school cafeteria. Families should bring a covered dish and their own table service.
Lou Markle head coach of Dalton varsity basketball thrives on optimism though wary of outcomes. Born August 13 1929 in Massillon and raised in Smithville he starred at Ashland College and played pro baseball briefly. He lives with wife Shirley and infant son at RFD 1 Dalton.
The Friendly Neighbors Homemakers Club chose Mrs. Ben Wetter as president and officers including vice president Mrs. Edna Douglas secretary treasurer Mrs. Charles Lotz and chorister Mrs. Lloyd Poorman with duties to begin in April. The April meeting at VFW Post Home featured devotions by Mrs. C R Goudy and group singing. Attorney Don Flath will speak on law in March and a possible join with the Women s Federation of Clubs was discussed. Hostesses listed and a program on Entertaining at Home was given. cherry pie and coffee were served by various members.
The Gazette invites ministers to submit correct worship times and ministers names for inclusion. Corrections should include the ministers of each church and the correct superintendents. Once received, the information will appear in a future issue.
Anna Santechi shows improvement after an ankle injury requiring a cast while the Mystery Farm series is sponsored by First National Bank and Dalton Equity, Inc.
Dalton moved past its first tourney game at Shreve Tuesday night with a 50 47 victory. The Bulldogs used balanced scoring led by Royer 20 Miller 19 Zurcher 14 and Huebner 11 to edge the Chipps after a close start. Dalton’s win improves to 5 7 in league play and 6 12 overall as they prepare for Wayne County Class A tourney action.
Elias P. Gerber 84 a well known lumber and hardware dealer in Kidron died Friday February 19 after a short illness He had been in business over 55 years Funeral services were held Monday at 2 30 p m at the Kidron Mennonite church with the Rev Reuben Hofstetter officiating Burial was in the church cemetery He is survived by two sons Glenford Kidron and Edwin Bluffton Oregon Four daughters Mrs Otto Gerber Mrs Marvin Miller and Mrs Dwight Gerber of Kidron and Mrs Albert Amstutz Millersburg Funeral arrangements were by Desvoignes Funeral Home.
Team 1 of the Dalton VFW Post Bowling clubs finished fourth at the Ohio Sixth District tournament in New Philadelphia on February 20. Members included Milo Bubenchick Gene Edwards Roy Amstutz Marvin Oswald and Carl Wilson. Team 2 featured Robert Akers Verle Gardner Russell Dague Robert Morton and Robert Wukirt. Both squads advance to the State VFW tournament in New Philadelphia.
A euchre event is planned at the post home on February 27 at 8:00 pm. It is sponsored by the local group and invites players to join the card night.
Nominations of officers will be held March 8 at the VFW Post with the election on March 22 Both meetings start at 8 p m All members are asked to attend both meetings and make a special effort to be present.

The Kindergarten Mothers club led by President Mrs. Robert Berg will meet Monday at 8:00 p.m. in the Kindergarten room to organize the preschool clinic setup. The meeting is described as very important for preparations.
