New Highway Plans For Dalton South Of Square
Dalton village council meeting presided by Mayor Hoobler approved a state built highway route 1200 feet south of the square. The existing highway becomes an alternate and will be state maintained. Engineers from Havens Emerson discussed waterworks and sewer plans, traffic laws near schools, and parking regulations.

Circle No 1 met February 14 with Mrs Merle Douglas and Eleanor Shisler as leader. Officers elected included secretary Mrs C R Goudy treasurer Mrs R Weikert and program committee Mrs R Jones and Mrs J Hoblick. Ida Haney led devotions Janice Douglas played piano and Miss Campbell reviewed Which Way Japan. A doughnut pastry candy sale is set for April 1. Circle No 4 will sponsor a food sale March 11 at 100 PM in C V Amstutz’s store bringing containers for soup. Circle Two of Dalton Presbyterian Women planned a fish supper March 3 from 530 to 730 PM in the church basement. Mrs Doris L Hopkins spoke at Founders Day for PTA about School Lunches. Mrs Wilbur Eckard presided and Mrs Matthey presented pupils in a Colonial Minuet with Mary Lou McDowell piano and Keith Johnson accordion. Three girls and singers contributed. The W S C S of the Methodist Church met with 15 members and one guest at Mrs Henry Kraus home. Ree Robert Mumaw led devotionals on Opening the Book of Books. Rev L E Flauhaus and Mrs Carroll Scott, Mrs Hazel, Mr Lintern, Edna Camp and Mr Smith participated. Mumaw led a program on The World Must Learn to Read and fruit salad cake coffee and candy were served. Circle Two of the Dalton Presbyterian Church met February 7 at Mrs Paul Stockham’s home. Ora Sandwith opened with devotions, a song and the Lord’s Prayer. Jackie Kirk sang a solo. Rebecca Stockham closed with a humorous piece. Mrs Stockham presided. Valentine refreshments were served.

Infant Ronald Santmyer Committal Services Held
Committal services for Ronald Lee Santmyer infant son of Mr and Mrs Leroy E Santmyer were held at Dalton cemetery on Wednesday at 10 30 am with Rev L E Flauhaus officiating. The infant, born at St Francis hospital Cambridge, died Monday morning. He is survived by his parents, grandparents Orville Santmyer of Dalton and Mrs Mary Elizabeth Cramer and Custer Cramer of Fredericksburg, great grandparents Neil Brown of Holmesville and Mary Cramer of Fredericksburg. The father was recovering from an emergency appendectomy performed Friday at St Francis Hospital. Desvoignes Funeral Home handled arrangements.

The 86 year old Akron resident and former postmaster Howard B Jameson was laid to rest at Goss Memorial Reformed Church. He died February 16 at his son Paul Jameson’s Holmesville home after a long career with McDowell & Jameson and Snyder Insurance. He leaves four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
